What a waste of money, bet they spent it on a poor health service in the city or a paediatric dept, instead of us having to travel to Bristol.. Another back hander for some one...
The Plymouth tax-payer should rejoice that someone is willing to take this out of date money draining monstrosity off the councils hands. Built before computers and wheelchair access where part of everyday life this building is so expensive to run that knocking it down and starting again was the only option the council could consider. So Brent buying it and modifying it as a 4 star hotel....which Plymouth lacks......is something the council would jump at. It is about time someone dragged Plymouth into the 21st century with such amenities.....so Gat it's not Brentmouth but a more modern City that will be developed. Plymouth lacks 4 star accomodation and this will attract more money through richer visitors who would go elsewhere. Whatever you say of James Brent he does have a vision for Devon and the whole Peninsula......if he improves the area and makes it more appealing then he deserves to make a profit from his enterprise......and that goes also for the HHP development. Okay we would of preferred a bigger stadium....but at present we will not be filling this one for years to come. Living near London and seeing the incredible development all around London and the interest and money it brings to the area (the Shard for instance etc etc) you would realize how left behind the west country is......Plymouth is a good example of being left behind....how can it not have a vibrant Airport being miles from anywhere.....think of the industry that is lost, all gain for Exeter I would think. Plymouth needs more Brent types to invest in the city and bring more jobs to the area. Being a PASALB member over the years has shown me young people drift to London looking for work....when times are bad the PASALB membership swells....when times get better many go back to Plymouth.....unless they have settled down and got married/partner with a family and the other half doesn't want to leave the London area....many I know have stayed.
Funny you should say that about filling the stadium Plymborn, on Pasoti somebody posted a link to the Plymouth V QPR when we were crowned Champions and made the comment that we will never see crowds like that again .... he's right there were 19 thousand nine hundred and something and our new stadium only holds 17K .... my reckoning should we be in that position again is a lost revenue of £60,000.00 per match and that is pricing the tickets at £20 ...... Sorry Plymborn Brent has taken over Central Park and now he is casting his beady eye on the rest of Plymouth !
His back handers must be nice!! Wonder what he will get next? Gat on that dat there were alot of supporters outside also.. Not to worry can't ses us filling the stadium for a while unless we get a good cup run? Plym we do not have an airport no more, that keeps the people away.. surely..
On this occasion I sort of agree with Plym. The Civic Centre is a monstrosity and would be better bulldozed to the ground. The grade 2 listing is a joke as it is a complete eyesore. I know it is huge in maintenance costs and doesn't serve the purpose now it was built for. There are loads of empty office buildings in this City which would be far cheaper for the taxpayers and better. The one thing that of course jumps out is the buyer. But, for me this has nothing to do with Argyle at all and if it suits all parties for Brent to get in on this then fine by me. How about renaming us Further South Brent which sort of fits in with the one that already exists?
There will be times when the stadium is sold out - we hope! But until such time as it becomes a regular thing, it's just hard luck on those who, on an odd occasion, can't get a ticket. They won't be the loyal hardcore season ticket holders like Sensible, which is as it should be. If it DOES become a regular feature, then the funds will be available to do something about it. Meanwhile, Plymborn and Sensible are quite right (not a common phrase), somebody needs to make something of that carbuncle on the face of Plymouth. It would be better if there were several developers fighting over opportunities in Plymouth but at the moment it's all Brent. The geography is a bit wrong unfortunately, otherwise we we could be South South Brent, Ocean City.
It sells out for the Jehovah witness convention each year? Ocean City??? what a joke that is and another 100k wasted by the Mayor/ess!! We are not by an Ocean its the SEA.. should be Sea-****ty oops city
I see lyndhurst is looking...... We had a bit of discussion on the other thread about stitched up or "use of outlets" and what our individual takes on what was promised were. I was looking on ATD tonight and there is a post on there which has highlighted a statement made some time ago. The statement read "all of the content of the stand would benefit the club". I knew I'd seen it before somewhere. Kippers don't get half as stitched up as we do Gat. The statement did say "subject to alteration". Well that alteration is just about a 10000000000000% turn around. Not that I can be bothered to look at the site anymore but I believe there are still some on pasoti trying to defend the reluctant one. You can just imagine it can't you. "Go on James be a devil and buy the club" "Oh I dunno, do you really want me too because I'm not sure" "Yea go on you know everyone wants you to" "Oh ok, can I do a bit of building around the place to make it look more homely" "Well a bit of tidying up won't hurt" "Well I bought Plymouth and it comes with a football club. Never mind I'll put a hotel here, and one here, and one here. It looks like a Monopoly board now. Anyone know what to do with this football thing?"
Bloody hell Sensible, I can see you don't get much exposure to legal matters if that's your basis of argument. The retail outlets under the stand are not accessed from the stand but from the public area outside. Therefore they aren't part of the stand even if they share the structure anymore than one terraced house is part of the one next to it. Even if that isn't the case, the "stand" will be as defined in the property contracts as the bit the club are paying rent for. That won't include the shops, which will be rented out separately. If they were included in the stand, the club would have to pay rent on them and take its chances as to whether it made money from them. Would you want that risk on the club? The "stand" by any stretch of the English language is where the people sit to watch football plus any immediately connected retail opportunities e.g. the catering outlets below the "horseshoe". Talk about wilful misunderstanding!
You're quite right notdistant I'm not legally trained. However, it's lets say, how you say things and if he used language only to be interpreted by a legal eagle then that is deception by any normal means. President Clinton "I did not have sex with that woman" springs to mind. The thread on ATD is entitled "Drip Drip Drip". Have a look at it with your trained legal head on and then take it off and put an ordinary one on.
President Carter sensible.....I don't think so.......he was one of the less devious ones. Your meaning Hillary's old man aren't you ?
Wonder how many heads Distant has Sensible.. he is like Wurzel Gummidge... with a different head on..
It just seems simple to me Joe. If you are talking to ordinary folk then you speak like ordinary folk speak. This is where Politicians and the like get into trouble. If you wrap things up in gobbledegook and the perception people have turns out to be the opposite of what they were meant to believe then it's their own fault when the revolution comes. There should be a campaign for plain speaking and anyone who doesn't speak plain should be locked up and the key thrown away or made to wear a Pinocio nose until they stop.
