Seems a strange decision to me unless Luke Young, sorry Bloody Luke Young, is making a full and timely recovery....

Gillingham have confirmed that full-back Michael Harriman's loan from QPR has been extended for the remainder of the season.

Gills boss Martin Allen admitted earlier this week that he was keen to tie Harriman to Priestfield for a long period after he came in to replace injured full-back Matt Fish.

Allen said: "He signed this morning on a season long loan. It's a no brainier because he's a good player."

The Gills boss also confirmed rumours that Gary Dicker has been training with the club.

The 27-year-old midfielder recently had a trial at Barnsley and has been looking for a club since being released by Championship side Brighton, who he played 26 games for last season.

The transfer window for permanent signings closes on Monday night but it’s not a deadline that Allen is overly concerned with.

“A lot is made of it but we can still take loan players,” said the Gills boss, who still hopes to tie up a new signing by the weekend.

“There is a lot of hype and the there will be the big business moves at the top end of the market. We are all waiting for the Gareth Bale deal to be a record breaker but that’s not happening here."

Whats the point in us setting up an academy when we dont even give the young players a chance. Surely the training facilities and coaching is inferior at lower league clubs. Come on TF give the youth a chance!!! Had enough of supporting over the (clint) hill players with no future (sex pistols).

Thank you Roller, you've got the hang of it.

I've never seen Harriman play, but I understood he's not bad. A season long loan must mean he's not going to make it, in Harold's eyes at least. If H assumes we are going to be promoted he's not going to draft a bloke he didn't trust as number 2 right back in the championship into the team.

Shame, I'd like to see some of the youngster get a few games. as Mack says, can only assume that this means mind blowing defensive signings.

Seems a bit strange to me. A guy I went to school with who had a pro deal at Wycombe last year was telling me how he was tipped by those at Wycombe to make it at a Premiership level let alone as a professional.
He seems like he could be the real deal and will obviously forge himself a career but after his chance at Anfield last year it seems strange he's not being given a chance in the Championship!

I believe Harriman and Sutherland have made it into the latest Ireland U21 squad for the qualifier against Germany on 9th September in Sligo. Fair play to both of them. The Germans will be a tough test for them. Hope they both get a run out.

    Fair play to Harriman

He's starting for them week in week out and this is much better for his development than sitting on the bench behind Simpson.

I hope he gets 30 plus games for them and comes back next season ready to challenge for a place

I've just checked this with Ian Taylor and it appears that Gillingham have jumped the gun with this story.

It may or may not happen, but hasn't yet.

I've seen him a few times and he's always been excellent. He should be in the squad.

surely if he gets games, he will develope further as a player rather than playing reserve games and being sub in first team. HR will have someone watching him for the season and if he can prove himself then maybe next season he will get a first team chance
