NB: We could learn a lot from their fans who although 5-1 down sang and cheered right through the game.
Totally agree, we need to make The Liberty an intimidating place to play, I think were far to nice to opposing teams.
The Ref, Michalis Koukoulakis is Greek, and from the capital of Crete, Heraklion is his home town, but He gave us very little, and his decisions were poor, but then it matched our defending, I said after the first leg, when Dainumpty was giving it big, that Petrolul Ploiesti were crap, that we'd have an up hill struggle at their place, and we did, though our very poor possession and passing didn't help, I know we had a good number of changes, but surely we can get all the squad up to the same level, good job Poz was on the field, he was a handful for them, shame about Leon, but at least we are through to the group stage now!......
PGF thier fans were loud but dont need the lazer pens and throwing stuff at the players that they do to be better than them !
As far as Donnelly goes - maybe I was hoping for too much - he looks nowhere near good enough for the Prem to me. Just doesn't seem to have any drive about him. Where would you all say the level of Petrolul lies in terms of the Engish system... League 1 ? Lower end Championship ? That result would be seen as a giant killing here surely ? I know we won the tie but I was expecting to win this leg as well. After the 0-0 away to Malmo and now this result, I'm thinking the away matches in the group stage will be our downfall.
the passing everyone is commenting on is the same as what we do in the premiership with the difference being that we look average to what we use to be against our fellow premiership opposition ....we played a poor side tonight and got beaten on the night and nobody is learning that they must watch the ref as he was gunning to give us cards. Our passing has deteriorated months ago not just for this game hence poor results. I had a feeling someone was going to get a red card at some point and i knew it would be us. they should have had at least two reds during the game especially in the first half. We are now in the draw for the group stage and that was our aim but we cant play like that against teams of a bit of quality or we will get stuffed. 4/10 because if we cant pass a ball and score against that lot then what bloody chance have we in the premiership....
To be honest I couldn't tell as I watched it on S4C, and it wasn't HD, so maybe it wasn't good, but it looked ok to me from what I could see, though we are like a bunch of fairies up front, trying to score!.................... please log in to view this image
To be fair, we were exactly the same when we used to be the crap team in Europe. I still find it amazing to find ourselves FAVOURITES in these ties
valley if you cant control then i will have no alternative to inform the super mods so they can ban him.....i wont put up with it and want every single insult deleted please..
Phil their is no need for that. Also Dai, I would also like you to stop calling other posters idiots on another thread. You can't harp on about people calling you names, then do the very same yourself. Give me strength!!!!
He's been wumming on here for days with his scouser love in again, and he's been calling plenty of jacks idiots, so I think Dainumpty is a measured response to be fair, but I'll stop when the Scouser does!.....................
We were playing the Romanian cup winners away from home. Any keen international football student will tell you that Romanian footballers are no mugs. I know that PP had quite a few foreigners in their side but an away leg there was always going to be difficult. I know it's a different level, but Man U don't win away that often in Europe. I think it was Donnellys first competitive game for the Club - talk about a baptism of fire in such a noisy stadium. He did look a bit raw and should have had a goal - but he is a young lad and his running kept the PP defence on their toes. He did a job on the night and showed some promise for future matches where our centre forward has got to do a lot of chasing
On the one hand it would be nice to play these big Clubs - on the other hand seeing two big clubs go out aint a bad thing for us
