Rodgers got the job because his philosophy was a match with FSG's - buy young talent at the 'right' price on the 'right' salary/play exciting football. Both of those are risks the club are taking with the hope of building success rather than buying it. Whether it works or not, we're all watching and waiting ....
Some more perspective. We were only 3 points worse off than 3rd. With pretty much the same first 11 bar Downing for Aspas. Yes other teams have strengthened, but so much to better that sort of points per game? I don't think so. Can't see why we can't still push some of those teams.
Considering we didn't have a striker until January and our start was front loaded (always playing catch-up points wise), there's quite a lot to be proud of in last years performance.
good points.... dare i say it though spurs have done great business but on the back of great sales, not disasterous losses. so.... levy loves modric, crouch and the rest. we pay for comolli and yes kenny's lunacy today. they lost thier jobs..... rightly then again you are quite right about us not/failing in trying to address the defense..... rodgers seems to change his mind about a month ago about thing and went out for an lb... i simply don't know why we didn't buy... i'd guess
this is an example of what i call "what a liverpool fan should think" I am sick and tired of getting called pessimistic about stuff when all i do is try to point towards the stand that is LFC winning stuff. so i love to hear this
not bad but could be better sturridge and coutinho had to work on fitness and.... oh hang on... 61 - 33 = 28 points in first 20 so... does that mean we ought to get 70 points just running this form? anyway.. the honest to god thing is that i think anyone who commented here isn't part of the getting totally carried away with transfers this week and i think most will emerge form the transfer madness and realise that it aint so bad.
convention is when i make a wild guess and get it so close that i have to baost on it. also convention in "estimating" to whole numbers is to round to nearest so 70 is nearest round number... queue boasting.
Problem with that calculation is most of the big games were played in the first half (plus one more game) of the season.
that is true but equally had the games been more spread out we might have done better. the start killed us. this year thats not the case... in fact utd aside villa was our toughest one til october.
Guess we will see. What I am a admirer of is 'you can only play whats in front of you' and 'you can only put eleen on the field at once'. So long as we look after ourselves then it doesn't really matter what others do. The multiple big signings that Spurs are making will only effect two of our games this season
that is quite true... don't get me wrong i'd love us to sign 2 world class players like everyone else but i can see what we've done and why and don't think its a failure of staff that two guys are not there since august 1.
I know people are just trying to put a positive spin on this summer but we all know we've cocked up in the window so far. We knew we needed to sign one class attacking player to add goals to our attack, we haven't done that. We knew we needed a strong CB to help out defensively at set pieces and also to score a couple of goals going forward, we haven't done that. We also knew we needed to improve the physicality in our team to stop ourselves getting steamrollered down the middle by any powerful midfield runners, we haven't done that.
they were already ahead of us. the LFC optimist's society run by yours truely would contend that they will only ge tone of FOUR places and frankly the way Chelsea have carried on despite the return of thier messiah AND UTd vying for another two places some LFC fans might just feel catching someone isn't impossible after all L.O.S... MITO's hates us but we don't care, we know where the bodies are buried, he's ours.
... but strengthening further ensures they stay ahead so it doesn't just affect the 2 games they play us, was my point.
there's absolutely no contradicting that especially seeing my annual blog posted two weeks ago says the same thing.. .spurs 4th us 6th... but the optimists have to say anythign can happen and it would be really hilarious if utd implode for example... chelsea did and won the thing to deny spurs who knows... who ever knows. the realist says 6th... the optimist says we've a decent little side ourselves and 6ths is the very worst we can do.
