Moyes wasn't first choice. The majority wanted Klopp/Mourinho (If we're going by the largest united forums).

Its Chelsea fans putting across that Jose was United's first choice, yet they say it with nothing to back it up only news paper gossip with no direct quotes from the people involved. Then they say they want sold proof to prove he wasn't offered the job wtf lol

So do the United fans seriously think Moyes was first choice...really?

In a 6 month spell when Jose, Pep and Ancelotti all were available and given how well Klopp has been doing at Dortmund and given Moyes clearly wasn't who the fans wanted...are we meant to believe Moyes was the top name on their list to replace the most successful manager ever in this country?

You don't need quotes, just some common sense.

We will never know for sure who was officially approached for the Utd and Chelsea jobs before Moyes and Jose, if anyone, except maybe in peoples biographies years from now.

I am not sure whether Jose was the Utd boards first choice, but he was certainly the first choice of every Utd fan I know in real life and online.
I have no proof of this, and dont really care, but if you put your hand on your heart and say that when SAF retired, if you were given carte blanche to pick any manager, you would have picked Moyes, then you are full of so much horse$hit....

It was vice versa when Rafa left us, Mourinho would definately have been the first choice of Chelsea fans (probably not Romans though, given their history).

We got the manager we wanted, you didnt. And it is hilarious that Utd fans all backtracked and made out as if Moyes was their preferred choice from day one. <laugh> Gimme a break!

Let me rephrase that, he could of been first choice for the club but for the majority of the fans, he wasn't.

Right it doesn't matter who the Utd fans wanted, it only matters who the board wanted. Me personally if Jose had been selected, I would have been split over the decision. Yes he is a great coach, a winner who gets results and would have won trophies no end. However he only stays a club for a few seasons and then buggers off. He also causes strife wherever he goes and it can be argued he is more disruptive then constructive during his tenure. In saying that I would have supported him as coach. However the point is Chelsea fans can argue all they want highlighting what they believe is proof Moyes was only 4th choice, yet this so called evidence is barely circumstantial and not worthy of any support.

As the saying goes. There's no smoke without fire. John Terry was never proven to have assaulted anyone in a club when he was younger. Never proven to have had an affair with an ex team mate's, ex girlfriend, nor in a court of law to have racially abused Anton Ferdinand. That doesn't mean it didn't happen. There is a very strong likelihood that United and/or Ferguson sounded out not only Jose but other top quality managers before they settled on Moyes. In fact it would be insulting to suggest they didn't go for the best at least as other options. Whether or not they turned United down or were in fact never offered the job is neither here not there. The reality is, United WOULD have made approaches to others. No business alive would offer one individual a job without considering other options. View it how you will as one snubbed the other, he said, she said, whatever. The truth is many options would have been considered. Moyes was not the first, last or only option United considered. United fans think that he was are crazy or have no idea how a business runs. Chelsea fans are just taunting United as we happen to be wry happy with our manager, for a change. No quotes needed, no sources, just plain common, business sense.

I can tell you that Mourinho was not MY first choice. Hand on heart. I am old enough to realise that short term success is not worth the damage to a club's reputation. And I can believe it wouldn't have been the first choice of the club's hierarchy too. I admit that some fans (younger ones) may have wished for Mourinho but that is not saying he was UNITED's first choice !. As for Moyes, he was on my shortlist and you can choose to believe me or not <ok>

As for Mourinho, he was definitely not Roman's first choice. Pep, Klopp and many others were before him. When they turned him down, he was forced to go with Mourinho. Of course I can believe he was most fans first choice.

The argument was not about fans. It was whether the manager was the club's choice or not and whether Mourinho was offered the job by United. <ok>

So basically absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Time to leave.

I do not have any problems with these points at all. You got what you wanted. Why does it follow that United fans have to be unhappy with Moyes and he had to be second, fourth or whatever choice?

Of course like players, we have to look who's available to take the job and who then should be offered. For me it is believable that Mourinho was never offered the job by United. Not because he is a bad manager or because his record is poor. Because of who he is. Chelsea fans have had success with him. Good luck to them. But for me and United it seems, the price of success with him is too high. We all know what we are talking about.

I have seen nothing to prove that he was anything but first choice by the club. I have often argued on the Utd board that it would be probably between Jose and Moyes. TBH I'm not that surprised they opted for Moyes.

Do you believe Terry did those things? Most likely. Did the evidence stack up to support the allegations. No. There is no proof that evolution is actually in existence. It is after all, and still to this day, only a theory yet widely regarded by most intelligent folk to be true. Same goes with relativity and particle string theory, heck, even gravity if you want to be pedantic! Can't see it but there is lots of circumstantial evidence to support it and is widely accepted and believed to be the truth. Accept the fact Moyes was not the first nor only choice and be done with it. Nobody but united fans believe any other case is the truth. You might as well teach your kids creationism...

And so what? Did you read my previous post where i said before SAF stood down I believed the choice would have been between Jose and Moyes. So what if Redcafe or Republik of Mancunia or any Utd blog/forum argued for or against Jose being selected. It doesn't matter if the board decided Moyes was their choice. End of.

Don't get me wrong though. There was no first choice manager, just a group of preferred choices.

This is incredible. <doh> You are dragging in a criminal case involving John Terry where the burden of proof to convict him is beyond all reasonable doubt. In effect John Terry was found not guilty of racially aggravated public order offence by a magistrate as it was 'Impossible to be sure what were the words spoken by Mr Terry'. While there was enough evidence to bring the matter to the court there was however not enough to convict him. Fair enough.

But taking it back to Moyes, please now tell me what evidence exists which could even show on the balance of probabilities (a lower test than criminal) that other managers where approached before David Moyes to replace SAF?

There is none. I have shown you that Carlo denied being approached, but the Chelsea fans on here ignored it. I have shown you that a member of the Utd board spoke out against Jose being selected as manager but you ignored it. And I showed you quotes from Jose where he admitted (according to him) that SAF had contacted him and confided in him that he was about to retire and yet Jose said contacts and phone calls between the two where not uncommon. That is where it ends. Jose never claimed he had been offered the job. There is no circumstantial evidence showing that Moyes was 4th choice.

All the so called evidence being put forward is soundbites on tabloid paper websites without any actual direct quotes, claims by rival football fans that they know or heard that every tom, dick and harry were approached by Utd before Moyes, as well as comments by some Utd fans on some blogs. That's it!

I really don't know what the obsession is by Chelsea fans to try and flog this dead horse. Is there some kind of need to convince yourselves that Jose came to Chelsea as if by divine appointment turning down all other offers?? Why do you care? I accept and understand that Jose is possibly the best coach in world football right now. I cannot however understand this desire to argue a moot point.

Not to the board it doesnt matter.
But we arent attempting to wind up the Utd board on a forum, we are winding up Utd fans, because they wanted Jose and didnt get him. Its quite simple really! :)
