But that was my argument on here yesterday, we are not short of players at CB but we are short of quality in depth. We have six players - Agger, Toure, Skrtel, Kelly, Wisdom and Coates - that can play there but only three are considered top level experienced players and it is clear for all to see that one of those is not wanted or rated by BR (or me )
For me you should have 4 capable CB's, with 1 or 2 youngsters fighting to get in and filling in when/where needed (Wisdom and Kelly in this case). Coates is the odd one out in my opinion and I don't think he's rated at all by Brendan. So that leaves Toure, Agger and Skrtel. If rumours are to be believed then Ilori will complete the quartet. Whether that four is of the required quality remains to be seen.
I agree we should aim for four CB's but not sure we are in a position to do it. You rightly say Coates isn't rated by BR but it is clear that that is the case with Skrtel too. That means we have just two recognised and trusted CB's at the club and therefore lack quality in depth. I'm convinced Wisdom is a better option than Skrtel too BTW.
Wisdom is inexperienced..in that case, Skrtel is ahead of him.If Skrtel is rubbish Rafa would not try to take him to Napoli.
Getting pretty tired of the vitriol on this site! If we click together as a team there's no reason we can't break the top 4 and as starting 11's go I think we are up there in terms of quality. Ok we lack squad depth but we actually have a good number of promising youngsters that should be filling he gaps. A decent winger is all we need and I would be disappointed to not make top 4 especially with the upheaval in the other teams. Gerrard says that this year feels different due to the belief within the team, well I for one will be believing with them!
I never said Skrtel is rubbish, I just don't rate him very highly! ATM, Skrtel is obviously a better defender (primary field for a CB) than Wisdom, but I have no doubt whatsoever that Wisdom will be by far and away a better player than Skrtel could ever be. Wisdom is a better footballer already IMO. Skrtel is a penalty waiting to happen too!

Get prepared to be disappointed then because ATM, there is no way we will finish above Man Utd, Man City or Chelsea and Tottenham have vastly improved their already better squad whilst we've sat still (well, replaced four like for like players for better ones). They only team that have stood still or weakened is Arsenal but their first eleven is better than ours. Its not posters being negative, it posters being realistic!
We only need to be there in the final third of the season. True test of our progress is on Sunday: and I strongly believe we have the chance of beating United.
I still think top 4 is optimistic - I am however expecting better consistency this season and to close the gap considerably. 12 points between us and Arsenal last season is far too much.
