Defence deffo. Midfield isn't thin, just lacks quality to push forward.

Your idea may be different to others...Having too many players in defence can have a negative effect. However,
if we have players who can play in both midfield and defence, it can be a good thing too.<ok>

We're thin in a few positions but having little cover at centre back is criminal. Not a good idea to go into a season with only 3 decent CBs one of whom we've basically told isn't considered good enough. Just as last summers debacle wrecked our start to last season it now looks like we have done the same this summer. With what we've got a long hard season will decimate this squad (if we don't bring in a couple more).

Whatever we think doesn't matter. Nothing is happening as far as transfers are concerned. While others seem to face little problem in obtaining their targets, every one we go for turns into a saga.
Sakho...will stay at psg or go to Napoli
    Papa...will stay put
    Eriksen..spurs
    Moses...most likely will stay put.
    Llajic (spelling) gone to Roma
And that's not counting the three top targets we have already missed out on.

My early season optimism is rapidly draining away and all we get is ' we are looking and hope to bring in two or three before window finishes.'
I don't want us to waste money but its obvious the squad is thin and getting thinner. 5 in but is it 6 or more out.yes we have bought more first teamers but is that good enough. The answer has to be no

Agreed, also factor other teams around us who have strengthened. Even Arsenal, who haven't strengthened.. they're still stronger than us anyway, when some of the injuries come back they'll be up there again.

I think we're a little light all over really.

If Sturridge is injured, then we'll struggle (until Suarez comes back). If Suarez then moves from the wing to centre, we then need a winger. I know we have Sterling and Ibe but we need established quality. If Coutinho is injured, then we lose the creative spark.

We need another DM and a stronger central midfield.

Another RB would be nice - again, we have Kelly and Wisdom but they're youngsters.

Oh and don't forget central defence!

    look heres the honest opinion.

we are getting over pessimistic here and we WERE over optimistic before. I mean one injury and the worlds fallen in?

to be 6th we need do nothing.

to be 5th we just need to loan in moses probably.

to be 4th we need to do a hell of a lot more than one or two signings and that was always the case.

Its all about options. if spurs signings come off no matter what we do we are not going to turn them over.

  13. I need to be able to select two of the three! We obviously need a CB but (and I don't think many of you have heard me say this <whistle>) we also need a DM! I've been saying for the last few weeks, we don't need attackers as much as we need these positions!

Very true. I like being overly pessimistic so that if we end up doing well, it seems sweeter.

  15. But when we do bad it doesn't seem so bad. Plus you can make yourself feel better by saying "I told you" <laugh>

3 injury's wasn't it? 2 of which were new signings, and the other is about the only CM cover we have..

  17. I was going to move you comment over but you've done the adjustment yourself now <doh>

I think this is a good point. If you are looking at our current available strongest eleven then defence is clearly an issue. But if you look at depth in each position (I'm talking numbers rather than quality) then CM is the problem area.

Especially when you consider our Summer signings have been for squad improvement, a few injury's and now we're looking extremely light. Carroll, Reina, Downing, Assaidi, Spearing, Shelvey all out, Martin Kelly and Skrtel still not match fit and now we've lost three players who would of been in and around the first team. Arguably the only first teamer we lost was Toure, but it's sods law that it would be in a position where we're getting increasingly light at.

Can see us losing this weekend after our spirits have been raised by the phenomenal performance against Notts.

We need to motivate our players. Losing is not in my dictionary especially playing at home.<ok>
