Ok its laboured and formulaic but the chap tried.Had this conversation with some friends last week. They dont like Fawlty Towers,Father Ted or Phoenix Nights but love Mrs Brown's Boys - Just goes to show,it takes all sorts!
the bit about hughton was quite funny and i thought it might be quite good but the rest of it was boring. mind you, who else are they going to pick on if not delia and fry? not as easy to take the piss out of hugh jackman cruyff, mrs brown's boys is without doubt the worst comedy the bbc have ever produced. i cannot for the life of me understand how anybody watches it! it gets almost 10m viewers as well, along with miranda which also isn't remotely funny father ted, now that's a comedy
I was a little bit surprised that I found it funny, my favourite comedy is probably 'The Thick Of It'. Still can't decide how satirical it is meant/trying to be.
Absolutely. The term 'comedy genius' gets bandied about a lot, but in the case of The Thick Of It, it's entirely justified.
Personally my humour is: Father Ted, Black Books, Spaced and Black Adder. Now they are witty funny comedies
Shame that 'In The Loop' didn't quite live up to it's billing though. It was funny, but not as much as The Thick Of It. Had a lot to live up to though I guess.
Well i enjoyed it! a bit of gutter humour doesn't hurt anybody! Give me only fools and horses anyday. slightly on topic, I watched the 20 funniest football clips on Sky1 the other night, Delia's rant only got in at number 5, but there are some absolute classic moments and the tears were rolling down my face at points, recommended viewing!
I just found this a bit cringe worthy. The Managers in prison analogy was alright, I laughed a bit, but the rest was just not funny. I'm glad to see we have so many comedy connoisseur on here!
I like a wide range of humour - Inbetweeners, Bottom, Fawlty Towers & Monty Python, Red Dwarf, Reggie Perrin (Original) for example but at least most of those were original at the time, unlike this thing that handily singles out the easy targets and spews up the same stuff - ooh, Delia's an alcoholic and Sir Fry is as bent as a nine bob note. I wonder how long it will be before we have some new stereotypes that can be ridiculed for a ****ing eternity?
The thick of it is awesome. Have you guys seen Veep? It's his American version. It's different, not just an American remake. American politics is a bit if an interest of mine and I fine it's very cleverly satirical.
The stuff about Delia and Stephen Fry was not orignial, clever or well-written and I would suggest borderline libellous. It would be nice if the author spent his time on orignal work rather than drunk chef and rampant homosexual cliched jibes which are about as tired as the inbreeding and carrot crunching lines people are still under the impression are clever and original but the difference is that the latter are "amusing" stereotypes, the former are personal attacks on famous people who probably won't fight back.
There is one very slight homophobic jibe in the whole thing. The bit specifically about Stephen Fry is not homophobic. Granted, the bit about Delia wasn't as inventive as the rest.
With you on that I despise BBC comedy actually I loathe 99% of the content you get on there! Our country has an absolutely hideous taste in TV programmes, it proper winds me up because we pay for it!
To balance out the stephen Fry/Delia thing, surely its the same as the whole Marcus Evans is a crook/Invisable man tosh that you guys normally pipe up with? Plus i know for a fact that Delia laughs off about the pitch rant thing, and it doesn't faze her one bit.
I don't think so. It's owned by HBO who are in competition with Netflix and won't licence then their content.
