Well, actually I think this should more be marshall hits Buemi, but I'll let the video speak for itself: Personally, I feel the marshall was very lucky, quite why he was running down the bank towards the car I don't know, but if he'd arrived a fraction of a second earlier he'd have had a run-in with the front wing, which would have done some serious damage to his legs, even if Buemi wasn't going that fast. This occurred at a charity event in Japan, I'm not sure how long ago, but I can't recall it being brought up. Probably doesn't need its own thread, but its so quiet on here right now it may as well have one! I guess the important thing is that nobody was hurt, although I think you can see in the video some bodywork break off the car, so that'll be expensive!
What a twat. You only have to see what happens to a person when an F1 car hits them at speed to know the damage it can cause to the driver and the marshall. The clips of Tom Pryce in 77 and Pironi at Germany in 1982 make for seriously grim watching (I won't even put the links up though they are on youtube). Good job it was just a demonstration event and relatively low speed.
A real marshal would be in fire proof gear and wouldn't run accross a live track, this guy is just a damn paper fireman with no brain.
Whilst it has been reported as being a marshal, the way he just runs out like that makes me wonder otherwise, especially when considering the response of the other marshals afterwards, who I think are all in Red Bull team gear?
I dont think that was a marshall - just some idiot. That was a bit of a fail for Red Bull. Why was Buemi even driving the car? I wish I had listened to some of your comments and not watched the Tom Pryce video. That was some sick piece of of **** - if anyone is reading this and hasnt seen the vid, PLEASE DONT WATCH IT!
I've watched videos of fatal crashes, but not the Pryce one. I know what i will see if i watch it and i don't want to see that. For anyone who is curious after all these comments about it. Just read Wikipedia and ask yourself if you want to see that.
I'll not be watching that video. No way. Call me squeamish, but I can't bear to see people die or get seriously injured, even on a tiny, pixellated screen. Those sorts of images can stay with you forever, and they are not how the people involved want to be remembered.
