That's not the issue. The issue is that it's become in Spurs best interests for Bale to be sold now when the price is at its highest, rather than freeze him out and pay an unhappy player to sit in the stands.
Paying him a few hundred thousand to ensure that we get full value for him from Real is a no-brainer. They've pissed around all summer and lowballed their way around, whilst blatantly tapping him up and continuing an endless media campaign, yet Levy's stuck to his guns. Most chairmen would've folded ages ago and taken less money.
If he gets more money then his tactics will pay off, but I can't see how keeping him beyond next Monday will help Spurs. Don't you agree that given Bale's now clear discontent, he should go this window and no later?
He will go now, but I'm sure he'd buckle under and get on with it if the move failed to materialise. Modric did. Setting this sort of example sets a standard for others looking at our players. We don't need teams with more financial clout thinking that we're an easy touch, like Arsenal.
It will help Spurs because it would be almost guaranteed that Bale would backtrack rapidly in order to play because nobody is gonna want him if he sulks for an entire season. A bit like when Rooney openly said he wanted to leave. He changed his mind and was an asset after that. It would also send out a MASSIVE message to all these other bully-boy clubs that if they want one of our players they should go about it the right way or we'll make things very, very difficult for them. However, do i think he'll be here come next tuesday? Not a chance. Edit - yeah, what pnp said
Don't you find it a bit odd that every single signing like this has resulted in the player being portrayed as the pantomime villain? If Bale has acted up, then obviously he's wrong to do so given that Spurs pay his wages but his frustration is understandable.
I can't tell who the later voters are. It was very close until recently, for a while we had a majority that thought he would stay!
I thought he would stay, but apart from his agent's comments about joining Madrid in May, Bale hadn't given any indication he wanted to go until not turning up for training - which seems very unlike him from what we know of his personality.
Blame the mods, I saw you demand this thread be shut last week and spurf was too busy texting his women, pnp was shining his prediction league trophy and Yv was in high powered business meetings.
Bizarre poll on Talk$hite today - "who is to blame, Spurs or Bale" I say bizarre because I can't even work out what the question was! How can this even be a poll?
Seriously though, if we miss anything then just drop us a PM and if we don't get back to you then just give up
