    As amazing as that team sounds, Ben Arfa, Sow, Gervinho and Hazard in the same line up might leave us sliggghtly exposed defensively.

    I'd sit down with Pardew and ask him who he feels he could realistically attract to the club with proper backing. I would rubber stamp the signing of two 'star' signings and tell him not to worry about money. These two players would be outside of the transfer budget and I would give him access to an additional £20m to strengthen key positions although overall spending would be capped at about £50m.

    Half of any money not spent would be saved for the January window but with this level of investment I would insist on at least a Top10 finish with qualification for the Europa league being the aim. If neither of these targets are met, next summer's budget would be minimal. This season is our big push to the next level, if it fails then back to frugality.

    I'd also ask Pardew to send more young players out on loan so they can get regular playing time, favouring Huddersfield, Hartlepool and Blyth. <ok>
