Watching the drivers talk to each other before the podium hinted to me 2 young drivers who respect each other highly and revel in the rivalry it provides, pushing them more and more until nothing is left to give. I was gobsmacked at how buddy buddy Seb and Lewis are now, it seems both have seen what calibre each other are and that they know they're very equal everywhere with regards to speed and consistency. please log in to view this image -------------------------- The camera then pans to Alonso who stands there silent, unemotional, tired and crushed with what had happened at this Grand Prix with what was a great recovery, but a well known below par performance in qualifying as pointed out by Pat Fry. The other 2 seemed they wanted another 20-30 laps for kicks. Vettel then glances to Alonso's direction with no emotion and then quickly turns his head back into the direction of Lewis to continue their conversation, it was if Vettel considered Alonso was nothing important to worry about and that Lewis was only worth talking to in there. please log in to view this image Alonso just cant seem to stop both these drivers taking all the poles and victories, in fact it seems nobody can!
They're a "younger generation" for Alonso, and I don't think it's fair at all to say they are better in every ability. Young Alonso was always "a wise head on young shoulders" and now his body matches his head. Out right pace he's probably slower, but I think he's more intelligent than them both and probably a little less prone to error EDIT: But I think Lewis and Seb are definitely better friends now... please log in to view this image
Alonso rarely takes part in post race discussions with the other drivers, I've noticed that quite a lot over the last few years. I don't think it's becuase he is disliked, but it does seem odd. Maybe he is sulking a bit (does have a habit of it) and his general body language this year has been negative. Is his Ferrari dream coming to an end?
Maybe he realises that time is on both Seb and Lewis side while for him he does not have that many chances left to secure the title particularly If the Vettel/Red Bull combo remains until 2016, either that or he's just really shy after a race...
Why should Alonso be all joyful and happy about losing races when his team didnt deliver as expected? Any races who tells me he is happy with second place is a loser. I agree with Alonso... You cant be satisfied with second if you are a racer.
he did say "if you're a racer" for me, I think Vettel is the best, fast and very consistent in getting the most out of his car although Hamilton is probably better when he's in top form, but that isn't as often as we'd like, although it's fair to say he is far more consistent than he used to be, older and wiser. Alonso is just a shade off them, as for his great starts, I think that's more to do with the car than the driver tbh, as Massa has had some superb starts as well. People will argue with it, but the truth is the 3 are so closely matched that any advantage is probably mere perception
saying both of them in the same paragraph? Do you not see the irony. Give Vettel the Ferrari of the last 4 years and he'd have 0 wins and 0 championships. Give Alonso the Red Bull and he'd have won in 2009 as well, unlike Vettel who cracked with the best car
yes, but I quantified the remark by comparing his starts with his team-mates, whereas if I do the same with Vettels record I could say he's won 3, probably soon to be 4, WDC's whilst his team-mate hasn't even recorded a runners-up spot, even with a bulletproof car. but then, I think the last sentence really says it best.
I still think Alonso is just about shading it from Vettel, with Hamilton just behind the pair. Alonso's superior intelligence gives him the edge, Hamilton is behind the others because he's thick.
There really is very little between the 3 and each can be the better driver on any given day... It's Vettel who's been getting the job done most regularly though. To be fair, Alonso and Hamilton haven't had cars that have been consistently as good as the RBR in recent years, which may give the impression that they are both light years behind Vettel... but we've seen that they can compete when their respective teams pull their fingers outta their butts...which is tough when competing against an outfit that's running as smoothly as RBR. As said somewhere on here earlier... The combination of RBR and Vettel is the perfect storm... or a you could call it a Vettelnado.
Its sad to think Time is running out on Alonso who is 32. But Lewis is 28 which also weirdly seems an older age for an F1 driver.
