Bony, on another thread re JdG you implied that effort and commitment wasn't really necessary (unless I missed your point). We all know the player has talent but what we want to see from him is that very effort and commitment you refer to. He'd be some player if he could add that to his locker.

I remember us targeting bottom of the table Blackburn away in our first season and we got a thumping !!

Lets leave it to the players and manager to do the targeting otherwise there will only be yet more hysterics !! ..<laugh>

    I totally agree fella.

When I post a thread after a game I tend to just call it as I see it at the time, when the blood is still boiling and the passion is at its highest, for me, that's a great way to get your feelings out and put your opinions out to others to talk about, just like we would talk about it in the pub afterwards. It doesn't always get a favourable reaction but that's fair enough as I believe what I type at the time comes from the heart . Good, bad and ugly etc .

A few days after the game I tend to return to being normal and logical(from my perspective anyway) the passion has died down and then you tend to put perspective into what you witnessed a few days previously, it is therefore a little bit worrying that the flapping has continued days after a defeat to a top 4/5 club on their own patch .

I don't think Laudrup could have done any different with whatever combination he chose to play, Spurs were a very good team the fact they beat us with an iffy penalty says it all for me.
We will play better through the season but I think we haven't given a decent Spurs team enough credit on this board, sometimes the opposition are just going to be better than us,even if they themselves arnt playing at 100%

Time to get into the nitty gritty will be after 10 games not 2

That's just my own view <cheers>

Sorry my point is regardless of the level of talent ,the very basic requirement in playing in a team is effort / commitment to the cause (no matter at what level) we've seen it so many times when players can't seem to bother and the team carries the player , a winger who doesn't work back to protect his full back for example .I'm not on a witch hunt at and I reconsise he has ability but sometimes it just needs a liitle bit more to become a truly great player.

If he was a truly great player he wouldn't be playing for Swansea would he ? and that's my point .

Laudrup has said himself that he prefers a defender to step out of the line and follow a striker out or pick up an attacker ,maybe its this tactic that is confusing some of our midfielders, because ive seen it with Ki,kemy and even shelvey as well as JDG . so does that mean they are all too lazy or is it something tactical that we don't fully understand ?

All things considered all our defensive failings tend to come from defensive blunders more than attacking idfielders coming straight through the middle, considering Spurs needed a penalty kick to beat us the defence laziness of JDG could not have been as bad as some perhaps think ?

Agree, it's usually a lack of concentration rather than a defensive tactical error. We were very difficult to break down against Spurs, and might have got a point against Utd if we had defended like that. If we put our defensive display against Spurs together with the way we played against Utd, we will be more than fine this season. It has also been two of the hardest fixtures we could hiope to have when waiting for the new players to gel with the old ones. On a positive note, once we play the sides we are EXPECTED to beat, hopefully the new lads will have settled down and everybody is on the same wavelength <ok>
