LOL. Very good and fair comment considering our recent history. Someone wrote "a bit personal". It is for me. I am currently recovering from a prostate op so it pains me just to look at it. The original badge was so pathetic it deserves to be made fun of. More generally, in these days when football is all business, and sometimes very big business indeed, and big businesses spend a fortune on graphic design and "image", it occurs to me that club badges have been generally left behind. Typical is Fulham's which looks like a heap of scrap metal and no doubt there are many worse. One of my many failed career paths was as graphic designer and I remember our lecturer saying that what he and other top guys in the profession most dreaded when being briefed for a commission was the chairman (or whoever) fishing in his desk for a serviette or piece of toilet roll and saying "This is an idea my twelve-year old daughter came up with. I think it is pretty cute and we should go with this. Of course, it will need a little bit of tidying up by your guys". I think 95% of club badges would fall into that category and sometimes less the "tidying up". Can anyone think of a club badge that is really well designed? Now I am not knocking those few clubs who have stuck with their original badge since their foundation, however naive or amateurish. They invoke some tradition and the money men are fast elimimating that from our national game.
Change our badge...this is a similar vain to the change the red red robin run out song to something else....no way its tradition init ! If I had my way team shirts would be plain like the old days...as in 1970`s old days.
long story it goes back to when we were a non league club and we played them in the fa cup at our old ground when they were a league club we went 2 nil up and their fans tried to start a fight and ended up getting a hiding and we won the match .since then several scraps have taken place home and away.we got a police escort from liverpool st station all the way to colchester 2 seasons ago,old bill are a pain in the arse
Mikey, heres the attendances for 2010/2011: Colchester: Max (6523) Lowest (2892) Average (4246) Wycombe: Max (8567) Lowest (2273) Average (4495) Combined: Max (15090) Lowest (5165) Average (8741) Charlton: Max (24767) Lowest (12797) Average (15582) Seems you were right
Wow that is a bit extreme policing. When we played Millwall at home they let all fans out at the same time and there wasn't even any segregating of fans. I was on a train full of Millwall thugs on the way home.
they only let us go in one pub in colchester and there were riot vans everywhere, well over the top if you ask me
if you notice we had a higher ave attendance than col u and they had some big teams at their ground whilst we had some that only brought a couple of hundred
Yeah I was quite suprised and impressed by that to be honest. Although Colchester's new modern ground looks like a dump so can hardly blame their fans for not turning up. Saying that, very few modern grounds impress me, possible exception to MK Dons and a few others. Brightons new ground is looking good.
agreed brightons new ground looks good, their fans deserve it after putting up with the withdene for so long.colchesters airfix stadium is well out of the way from the town so that dont help.
Yeah having been to The Withdean this season I have to agree, they really do deserve a new ground. It was an action packed first ten minutes (a goal, a penalty and a red card if I remember correctly) and I seen none of it due to the proximity from the pitch and the horrendous fog.
