Fenerbahce are expelled from the Europa League and barred from qualifying for next season's Champions League in a match-fixing case. The Turkish club were due to enter the Europa League after being eliminated by Arsenal in the Champions League play-offs on Tuesday. Uefa expelled Fenerbahce in June after judging that club officials helped fix matches to win the 2011 Turkish league title. The Court of Arbitration for Sport says it has dismissed the Turkish club's appeal against a two-year competition ban imposed by Uefa. What a bloody joke. So they allow a team suspected of match fixing to play in the champions league and then ban them straight away as soon as they've been knocked out a day later?!?!?! This is wrong in so many ways.
What I find interesting, is they were drawn against us, the team most likely to knock them out of the qualifying round. I wonder if that was fixed.
I think a lot of match draws are fixed tbh, too regularly the matches that everyone wants to see are the ones that get drawn.
Yes but it's still so wrong. Another CLEAN club should have been given the oppurtunity to play in the tourny in my opinion.
What would have happened if CAS had overturned UEFA's ban.I think the problem is CAS should have made a decision on the appeal before qualifying for UEFA tournaments had started
Yep, once Fenerbahce appealed to CAS there was no choice, they had to reinstate them to avoid prejudicing the outcome, even though it would be inevitably thrown out. Red Bull Salzburg should be reinstated to the Europa groups now and hopefully they will get compensation from the Turks for the money they missed out on from the tie they should have played against you.
UEFA will decide tomorrow who takes Fenerbahce's place in the Europa League. It be wrong if it wasn't Salzburg.
Rofl, i literally jsut commented in confusion on the tottenham game thread asto why this had been closed!
