Irish transport company Bus Eireann is investigating how a cancer patient was carried up to 25 kilometres in a coach's baggage compartment. The woman had received treatment for cancer in Galway and was travelling home to Ballyvaughan in County Clare. As she climbed into the compartment to retrieve her bag, the bus moved off. She was not discovered until the next stop at Doolin 25 kilometres away. Bus Eirean said the incident occurred in recent weeks. A company spokeswoman said: "Bus Eireann takes complaints very seriously and we investigate all complaints. "This matter is currently being investigated and you will appreciate no further comment can be given pending the outcome of the investigation."
