I will be satisfied if we get a fourth season I think we are progressing but we are def still in the bottom 12 of this division and that's always going to be hard

12 goals in our last 3 competitive home games, I'm just not sure we are attacking enough.

Just read through all this, and I do think it's a valid question. I would give him the whole season unless there is a point we are in real trouble. If the football has improved and we survive I would keep him in the job and give him a new contract. If the football hasn't improved and we have a worse point tally than last season, I honestly would think about a change. It might sound crazy but I don't want **** football at Carrow Road, even if it is Premier League. I can't see how we would progress to next level playing the football we did last season.

Saying this though, I do think once we start clicking the football will get better. I think the fullbacks will be massive this season, Olsson especially, they'll be key cogs in our attacking play. I think once midfield can get used to RVW's movement he will get service more, a few times in the Hull game RVW had a bit of space but the midfield didn't look for him, hopefully they will with time.

We only had 47% possession (source:BBC) against a fourth tier side. Ridiculous (stats).

I don't want to be accused of only turning up after bad performances (as we 'Hughton sceptics' often are), so I'd like to commend CH for recognising the need to put out a strong team last night and having the guts to do it. Middle of the night here in Vietnam, nothing on TV of course, and probably no streams, so I didn't see it, but it sounds like it was entertaining and just what we needed after Saturday.

League Two opposition actually Munky_Budgerigar! ;)

Yes, you lot are seriously going to leak a hell of a lot of goals this season on that kind of showing. Expect a lot of bird sh*t and feathers clogging up the Carrot Road aviary floor as 26k critters reap what they've sown! <laugh><cheers>

you see, this makes a lot of sense but isn't this the case with any manager? most people tend to judge managers based on a season, not a handful of games. now yes, he has already had a season but he actually did a good job, something some people either forget or refuse to believe. no, the football was not always entertaining and we did suffer some heavy defeats but he fulfilled his brief and was trusted by the board to spend heavily this summer. he is NOT about to be sacked if a few fans are unhappy with the style of play - it just isn't going to happen! he's been appointed as a long term manager of the football club and he'll have a long term plan that he'll be sticking to rather than adjusting to please certain fans. we might finish lower than last year. that doesn't mean we've gone backwards in the same way that finishing higher last season wasn't an indication of progress - its a tough division. if he keeps us up again he'll have done well, simple as that. we don't have to show progression through 'style' - its about staying up again so the club can build on the early foundations laid. if you don't like that then you aren't considering how difficult the league is. the money spent is irrelevant - it was a necessity as our closest competitors have done likewise. the progress might occur over a longer period of time than one season - as i keep saying any progress will be painfully slow on the field from this point - although i have to say i've already seen a few glimpses to suggest the style has been tweaked and when players return to fitness it will be more noticeable.

As has been pointed out they are a League Two side, but when you look at last nights result in context it's a good score line. What about West Ham v Cheltenham?, Liverpool v Notts County?, Fulham v Burton?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/results

When you compare our result to those the result last night was pretty good :)

pretty confident munky was joking <ok>

unbelievably, or perhaps not so unbelievable baring in mind the attitude of some of our fans, there were a number of people moaning last night about the team, one in particular really was grating. apparently hughton should be sacked because he picked 'too strong a team', 'didn't pick two up front against a league two team' and my personal favourite, 'we were too open defensively'. these were the comments of one chap who spent the whole of last season moaning about how boring home games were, yet we see 9 goals in one evening and he still isn't satisfied? sums up some people i'm afraid. moaning for the sake of it. it was fantastic entertainment <ok>

just to add to my earlier post, any comparisons to roeder are so over the top it makes me cringe.

and worrying about leaving any decision to sack him until it was too late...? well, this is total nonsense!

for starters, roeder was sacked in very good time - it was the appointment of gunn which cocked everything up, not the timing of when we sacked roeder. he was sacked early january when we were 21st in the division. had we made a good appointment we'd have probably been fine.

as i say comparisons between roeder and hughton are stupid. for starters hughton has been doing a good job. just because some people aren't satisfied with the style of play and think he could be doing better is no reason to worry about mcnally getting his sacking right! i mean for goodness sake, get back to reality please!! this is a different club these days - we are far from being a shambles on or off the pitch and it amazes me that it seems to be the older heads on this board and perhaps in general that seem to be the ones getting on the managers case rather than the younger ones, which is odd as i'd have thought it would be the other way around (ie. the sky / instant success generation).

is it? i was making a general point of course but from those i've chatted to and gauging opinion on here i'd say its more the older heads who seem to get 'itchy feet'

I think so - it was perhaps an unnecessary inclusion in a good post. I hadn't got that feeling at all. I would cite myself, Dave, RBF for starters as unflappable (older) optimists.
