When we had players in the England team [seems a world away now ] it used to fill me with a mixture of pride [that we have players of such callibre] and apprehension [lest he get injured].
Can't believe the likes of Barkley and Townsend get picked off the back of one good game, yet our Lukey can't get a look in. If he was half Nigerian, Hodgson would be all over him to make sure he's tied down to England, a la Sterling or Zaha [who I hasten to add are still eligible for Jamaica and the Ivory Coast...(ffs Hodgson)]. But what do I care, it's all about NI anyway.
Sterling is 18 and Lallana is 25. Not a very good comparison. He's probably only got Sterling in there for experience.
I saw Sterling play for the U21s about 6 months ago and he was poor. His dribbling and skills were excellent, but every single time he'd just go around in circles with his head down, look up and play a simple pass backwards, for me he's nowhere near good enough for England seniors yet. I really feel England should be making senior caps desirable and have to be earned, like Lambert's, rather than just given to them because they've had a few good games and are under 20.
Almost want to make a comment on that but can't really disagree (apart from giving him the benefit of the doubt for most of the Sunderland game when I thought he played well).
I so want Adam to be a success in the premier league as he has so much talent. I thought he started last season well, but if I recall, he picked up a knock and never quite seemed the same. He really started to spark on Saturday in the second half and should have been left on, but first half he was very poor. It looks to me like he needs a goal to gain some confidence and Norwich Saturday would be a good place to start.
