So why not have a box of white balls in varying stages of wear so that the game can continue under the lights?

Seems a bit obvious to me! That's probably why they won't do it, it makes too much sense!

Alternatively, why don't they simply start the game at an earlier time? It seems to me that a ten o'clock start would have sorted the problem immediately.

I've long thought that a proper test match should consist of two full innings from each side, irrespective of time taken, trouble is, with our summers, a 5 test series could take months to complete! <yikes>

Evening all just back from a few days on the Brittany coast. Very good dry and sunny weather, while her it rained a bit Sunday, but not enough!

Just seen your comments on the cricket. Wiki tells the tale of the last timeless match.

"The last ever timeless Test was the fifth Test between England and South Africa at Durban in 1939, which was abandoned as a draw after nine days of play spread over twelve days, otherwise the England team would have missed the boat for home. This match had started on 3 March. South Africa had set a target of 696 for England to win. By the time England had to leave to catch their boat home, on 14 March, England had reached 654 for 5 (the highest ever first-class fourth innings score)"

Doubt it -I have a friend who is a steward at Lords & he reliably informs that, for members, any time is Tiffin time. <laugh>

I guess it depends on which particular euphemism you are referring to at the time! ;)

It was still raining early Sunday morning and the pitch did not dry out enough - that is why it was delayed to a 11.30 start. Real shame as it was getting very exciting and total respect to the Aussies for the declaration and making a go of it. Also huge respect to the Aussie team for the way they have conducted themselves in this series.

Those crafty South Africans, they slowed the play down knowing that England would have to leave early to catch the boat.

I know its pathetic, but I read that with a beaming smile! I have said all along he does an underrated job very simply but effectively. He was no nonsense and broke up play well and could distribute the ball too. I would have him back in a heartbeat!

Morning all from another dry, muggy start to the day in Weston-super-Mare!

Have a good day, I'm off to my second home soon, I hope they let me out, I've been a naughty boy and got a bad cut on my right foot! :(
