Maureen was negative last night & I've said as much in the match thread, but Moyes was hardly 'gung ho' was he?
It was only in the big games that he clammed up & went safety first..... A leopard doesn't change his spots mate, you'll see.......
As UTD did most the attacking (yes little in last 3rd, due to a bus being parked in goal), I think you are wrong, this not Everton now, Sir David plays to his strengths
I hope you are wrong. United are not Everton and we need someone who goes for a win ALL the time everywhere. There would no chance of a title if we get many draws even if we do lose only a few. If he keeps the safety first mentality he won't survive. He needs to adopt SAF mentality VERY quickly. A draw (except for last night which could be excused as his first home match and against Maureen who parked the bus) should always be 2 points lost.
You didn't score though & didn't really look likely to either. There wasn't the usual sustained period of pressure (particularly late on) that was synonymous with the Ferguson era.
Moyes mentality at Everton was always - don't lose. In his latter years he became more adventurous at home, but away at the bigger sides, he was ALWAYS safety first. As you say, he'll have to change that philosophy if he's to succeed at United, but I'll be amazed if he ever does fully adjust to that mindset. I can't ever seeing him 'doing a Fergie' & finishing a game with 4 strikers chasing a win, for example, that'd be alien to him.
So the ref was just incompetent then, giving a decision that he didn't see and could in no way of been 100% certain of? Like I've said, the penalty was one of those that on another day could of been given because his arm was away from his body, they've been given for far less obvious handballs in the past and will definitely be given for less in the future, but in that game with that ref I certainly wasn't surprised when the whistle didn't go.
It doesn't have to be going in, no idea why that was brought up. That's a penalty for me, hand up in the area re directing the trajectory of the ball. Matters not one bit if it was deliberate. **** game though, eh.
Hope again you are wrong. Because if this is the case, we have made a bloody massive mistake in choosing him. We need someone who can take risks and make sure the players understand that one point is never good enough. With SAF you knew that if drawing or losing in the 2nd half he would throw the kitchen sink at the opposition - 4 strikers if necessary with the risk of losing the match. Giggs and Neville will hopefully be able to remind/guide him. But I cannot believe he does not realise that already. Drawing against Chelsea would have been a good result for Everton but not for United at OT. SAF would have expected a win.
A handball in the penalty area is a penalty. Simples. It does not need to be going in In my opinion, clear penalty. His arm was away from his body and he stopped the ball with it. If Lampard was on the goal line, would it not have been given as a penalty 99.99% if not 100% of the time?
Kinda does, since the rule state that a handball is such when "a player handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)"
I'm not sure many managers go to the big clubs thinking they're going to out pass and out attack the home team. I don't think it would be unfair to say that Fergie usually sent his teams out not to lose, and hopefully nick a win, in away games against their title rivals. It's what any sane manager would do and it's what Mourinho did last night, although he didn't even look like he was trying to nick a win. Going for broke in the last ten minutes last night would have been extremely naive. Imagine the press if Chelsea had stolen a 1-0 win. Better to take the point and move onto the next game. Moyes' main challenge this season is to get through the first 5 games without giving the media and the frothing ABUs who are desperate for him and United to fail too much ammunition. So far he's accrued 4 points, 3 more than we got in the corresponding fixtures last season. Not bad considering we were supposed to lose both games.
Again three matches in a row, the Chavs benefit from a refereeing decision. I think there is something fishy going on. Any bets the Chavs would benefit from a vital refereeing decision in the next match?
That is, frankly, rubbish. For example, player in a wall at a free kick raises his arm, stupidly, to protect his face and defects the ball into touch. You telling me that because that's an accident it's no pen? Or are you telling me he deliberately deflected the ball into touch? Because that's a stonewall pen every time.
No, it isnt. Those are rules of football, look them up on the FIFA Website. That's a direct quote from the rule book.
You would expect the home team to do so 12 shots to 8 and 10% more possession. Draw was a fair result given neither deserved to win outright.
