Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has confirmed his interest in West Brom's Peter Odemwingie and is hoping to wrap up a £2million deal. Laudrup is keen to sign a new striker before the transfer window closes and Odemwingie has been linked with a move to the Liberty Stadium throughout the summer. However after watching his Swansea side slip to a 1-0 defeat at Tottenham on Sunday, Laudrup admitted his interest in Odemwingie, who is keen to resurrect his career away from the Hawthorns. Laudrup wants to add some more pace to his attack and believes Odemwingie would be the ideal signing for the Swans. "We want to add one more who can give us that in a certain part of the game or in certain games," Laudrup revealed. "And he (Odemwingie) is a player with pace who knows the league." Stoke City and Cardiff have also been heavily linked with a move for the 32-year-old Nigerian star but Swansea appear to be in the box seat for his signature and a deal is in the pipeline. As am I,Valley. This story has been travelling around for some time now,and I hope it continues on it's journey.
My only concern would be will he be happy with being a second string striker, although I know we have a ton of games coming up
As a player he'd be perfect for us; - Has scored goals wherever he's been, roughly 1 in 3 (102 goals in 334 games across his club career, although it must be noted many of these games were from the wing and some of those goals were in big games...ie 2 against AC Milan which got Lille into the Champions League group stages...also his goal ratio improved as he got older) - Has pace to burn, meaning he can be effective from the wing as well as up front....or would be a good foil for Bony if we were chasing the game and wanted 2 up front. - Is a handful physically. Stands at 6fT...I've always found him an aggressive specimen, competitive (remember him clearing out Neil Taylor at the Liberty?) - Has good Prem experience. 30 goals in 87 West Brom appearances, averaging 15 a year. - Has a point to prove after the QPR transfer debacle and will be grateful to get games, can't see him throwing any hissy fits. The only concern I have is that the QPR nonsense was clearly about a good player in his Autumn years looking for one last big pay off before he retires. So perhaps his ambition is on the wane? Also, we aren't going to offer him one last big pay off so surely he would choose a club who will if he has the option....aren't QPR still sniffing around him? Overall if we can make it happen, for a relatively low outlay, I would.
our track record of buying players of any use from WBA is abysmal. are we really going to fund them again?
For £2 million I'd take a chance. With his past playing record, if he came good he'd be a big asset to the squad. Rather like the sound of this Guidetti character though, he's an out and out goalscorer.
I'd take a punt on him. I've got nothing against the lad, except what he did to try and go to QPR, then that might have been his agent at work. Still at 2m worth a go.
The story's hasn't gone away Swansea plan new Odemwingie transfer bid to beat Cardiff and Stoke to West Brom striker 26 Aug 2013 22:29 Swans are the only interested club who can offer controversial star European football but their £1.8million offer is the lowest Odemwingie is keen on a move to League Cup holders Swansea, to play a part in their Europa League campaign. But the Swans have only offered £1.8milion for him, while Mark Hughes' Potters and newly-promoted Cardiff bid £2m. We reported in early June that the two Welsh clubs, bitter rivals, were both interested in the player. Bad boy Odemwingie, who has been training away from the Albion first team, wants European football this season. But the Baggies are determined to sell to the highest bidder. Swansea are now preparing a fresh bid for the 32-year-old. “We want to add one more who can give us that in a certain part of the game or in certain games,” Swans boss Michael Laudrup said. “And he (Odemwingie) is a player with pace who knows the league.” Nigeria international Odemwingie has been looking for a way out of Albion ever since he memorably tried to force through a move to Queens Park Rangers in January. 1.8 million then that would be a good deal , watch this space
I am not sure I like this, the guy can totally be a disruptive influence in the changing room. Suarez showed more class in his transfer farce than this guy did.
I would rather pay £3.5 mill for Nicklas Bendtner. He is younger and a proven goalscorer for Denmark. After a long time without playing in the starting XI at Juventus. I think Bendtner wants to prove himself now. Only problem with Bendtner is his high wage demands. I am pretty sure Laudrup understands to control Bendtners ego. Its a bit of a risk with Odemwingie. Is he hungry enough? Does he still have his pace at the age of 32 considered the fact that he hasn't played any games for 8 months. If Odemwingie is motivated and fit, then he has something different to offer compared with Bony. When fit he is very pacy and can shoot goals from the distance. He is definitely a proven goalscorer and would give us a different attacking option.
Odemwingie. Nigerian. £2,000,000.00. Does this have a familiar ring to it? This is surely a scam!!! Better go and check my in box, maybe I've won him in some raffle,or other. He's there, and has 914 on his shirt.
