btw He has a new one out featuring Jimmy Rabbitte,40 odd and bowel cancer.I haven't got it yet but it's about the guy that got The Commitments together,next time I'm in bookshop will pick it up.
Read two Doyle books. That's 2 too many. Promises a lot because he can find rich fodder but is unable to deliver anything. ****e. John Banville, however, delivered on "The Book of Evidence". A ****in stunner of a novel. One of my favourite books while growing up. Roddy Doyle is an arse.
Banville reminds me of James Kelman. Glaswegian Kelman had one cracker of a novel "A Disaffection" but was normally ****e otherwise. They were both better, in their worst, than Ian (M.) Banks. A ****ing horror show of a writer. Made his name off the trashy "The Wasp Factory" and am ****ed if I know how he made any headway with crap like "The Crow Road" or "The Bridge".
The Barrytown trilogy gave the country a feel good factor especially Dubs but Paddy Clarke Ha Ha and A Star Called Henry are both a good read.I agree with Banville and The Sea is another worth seeking out.
Pish. The Barrytown Trilogy, The Woman Who Walked Into Doors and A Star Called Henry are all great reads (although the follow ups to ASCH are ****ing awful.)
