Who would've guessed Bale would've had the wonderful season he had last year? He was phenomenal.

Walcott had a good season too (statistically speaking), but it was kinda in spurs.
Form aside though, when you look at his general play he really has improved a lot. Its impressive really. His technique, passing, touch (as shown by how he brings crosses down into his stride), movement and intelligence has all increased by some amount.
He is just so much more deadly now.
Don't think anyone (me included) has any right calling him a "sprinter".

It's not out of the equation that Walcott has a similar season to what Bale had last year.

As good - probably not. But i have noticed his improvement as well. Last year he was brilliant at finishing and runs but not much else. I don't know what has clicked this year but against Fulham he was lethal at everything but finishing. He was beating players for fun with skill not speed. His first touch and general control have also improved a whole lot. If he finds or improves his shooting boots (from last year) hell yeah he can be lethal.

But it would take something beyond ridiculously special to match Bales form for the last year.

Agreed. Bale would be hard to replicate. But who would've guessed he'd be that good last year? Walcott may very well surprise us and take the league by storm.

To be fair most of us Spurs fans expected it and have been saying for a few years he can do it.

Walcott I think will have a great season, not as good as Bale but will definetely be one of the best players in the league this year.

When you saw the spuds no longer saying that Lennon was better, you knew Walcott was finally beginning to get the recognition that he deserved. His stats are similar to Bale, it's just that Bale was a spectacular player in a fairly average team and he rescued spurs so many times in such dramatic fashion last season that he stood out as a phenomenal player.

I'm hoping too that Ramsey will be spoken in the same esteem as Walcott soon. Both really good players who have been slated by our own fans and who are both now proving the doubters wrong <ok>

Walcott is a good player but not at Bale's level. Bale is simply more powerful, skillfull, intelligent and probably more faster too. Bale has the ability to ghost past players and uses his strength to brush past them. He also has enough trickery to out fox defenders. Walcott needs balls to chase after and only if the opposing player are at a sufficient distance. He struggles to go past players when level and ends up losing the ball by being out muscled. Don't get me wrong, if the conditions are right, Walcott can be deadly, but he has to be put in those conditions to excel in. Bale is a special player that can do something out of nothing, whether in open play or scoring a great free kick. That's why all the top teams are after Bale.

While I agree with your general post, Bale is not faster than Walcott. This is not even up for debate.

Depends on what type of speed, Walcott is good at quick, short bursts wheras Bale picks up speeds slower but maintains it at higher levels for longer. Both are top speeders that use it to devistating effect.

Walcott has both higher acceleration as well a higher top speed. He is hands down the quickest footballer in the Prem. This is of course no slight on Bale who's rapid himself.

Theo needs to find some consistency, he was very good for much of last season and like others I expected him to move up to the next level this year but against Villa he was terrible, I don't just mean poor but he looked disinterested and non committed.
After the Summer the one thing we didn't need was a home game as the pressure on AW was intense, and players will feel/sense that, could suggest that Theo isn't up for a fight and isn't as mentally strong as we'd like ?
I heard from a fairly reliable source not long ago that the reason we haven't signed Begovic is that he is mentally weak/needs motivating and confidence....

Theo is faster than Bale. He's probably the fastest player in the league. If he was a little taller he would be ridiculously quick.

Bale is more powerful though and has the ability to 'shrug' off defender. He also has a better touch than Walcott.

Still 21 Goals from the RW position shows that Walcott is becoming one of the leagues most effective players. He has got better EVERY year at Arsenal.

    This could be his Season.

    Very interesting stats.

The reason Bale was lauded as player of the season was because of the dramatic way that he hauled the spuds arses out of trouble, don't forget they would have finished behind liverpool if it wasn't for his dramatic last minute winners and solitary goals that won games for them.

Walcott quietly went about his business and notched up an almost identical record in terms of goals, assists and passes but he went under the radar because, contrary to the doom and gloom predicted at losing RVP, we spread the goals around the team last season.

I did the statistical analysis myself in another thread recently and it shows just how similar of aseason they had. Bale is more powerful and he single-handedly made the difference for a struggling spurs team which is why he has been bigged up so much.

Both are very good players. It's ridiculous how much Bale is going to be sold for though.
