On Sky, about to discuss Osvaldo and whether he should have had a red card on Saturday. Whatever they say, I will be amazed if he doesn't get a red card or two this season...has to watch his mouth as well...that could cost him a yellow meaning he is on the edge for the rest of the match.

Carroll is still out, but Sturridge has been looking good since the season started.

I'm expecting: Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge, Defoe.

Dermot Gallagher says the first yellow for Osvaldo was harsh, the referee put himself under pressure and could've managed it better.

Osvaldo could've been sent off for his back-chat straight after too.

He says the tackle afterwards was actually the thing worthy of a yellow. Osvaldo was on the edge.

Exactly what we all thought...Mauricio will have to have a word, but I think Osvaldo is a fiery character who will get cards. Has to watch the back chat.

Assuming Roy only selects four strikers, and Carroll isn't deemed fit enough, I presume it's between Defoe and Lambert for the fourth slot.

I hope Roy missed the Sunderland game for Rickie's sake....

One of my worries about Osvaldo is his reputation - he could easily end up being a Barton/Balotelli type that refs look for. Hopefully they'll be distracted by his good looks or something and treat him fairly....!

Annoys me a little (Only a little though, promise) that Osvaldo's challenge has gotten plenty of attention because of his incoming reputation, whist the fact that Gardner had an absolute stonewall second yellow waved away went ignored. The ref just didn't want to make any big decisions, the only person willing to make a tough call was the lino and he got it wrong! <laugh>

Absolutely, but that's my point, I think we're going to have to live with this problem, unless of course he has some kind of transformation. So no, we're going to have to live with it!

Of course, though I wasn't really directly responding to you, LTL. Like you I won't really be fretting about Osvaldo's misdemeanours if he also plays to his ability and works hard for the team.

A consensus seems to have formed that the Jay Rod offside call was incorrect, can someone tell me how this happened because I feel like I must have missed something! It pains me to admit this as much as any of you, but the linesman was correct. Yes, it was marginal, and yes, it wouldn't have been particularly controversial had the goal been allowed to stand, but he was offside.

I've taken the liberty of producing this diagram which certainly could be more professionally done, but still I think clearly shows he's a foot or two offside:

In this picture, the ball's already left Lambert's foot. He was onside.

His feet were onside, his torso was not!

Come on there's maybe 6 inches between his foot and the ball, which is less than the distance Rodriguez is offside by. The only way Rodriguez can be onside is if he is moving about four times the speed of the ball.

Don't worry, you're not the only one. I've already stated on here that, for me, the replays show that the goal was correctly ruled out for offside.

The ball has left Lambert's foot for a start and he still looks more or less level there. When it actually leaves his foot Rodriguez is level on saintsplayer. I still don't know what the **** you're on about saying 'clearly shows he's a foot or two offside'. No it doesn't at all. You've taken the screenshot at the wrong time to show the offside call for a start and he's still not 'a foot or two' off in the screenshot. The players were fuming after the game and had seen the replays.

I think it was marginal with him probably just being slightly off personally, but if that diagram is supposed to show that he's a foot or two offside then I must being seeing a different image! <laugh>
