You got a link to something that won't completely **** my PC up Just spent the last half hour trying to uninstall all the bollox clicking that link put on it
Right three pages of probable ****, and now you get the answer you need, you see I am an expert, and a professional. You see I can rename an Mpeg file as an AVI, and all the modern day players will still play it, all the AVI bit does is means the file will show up on the list of files it can play. The player then checks the coding of the file and picks the correct CODEC to play it. So an AVI file could be anything, but your TV will not be that flexible. I am guessing, that the files you have will be using an Xvid encoding, which your TV won't support, you will need to convert it into something like MPEG1/2 MPEG2 is DVD quality. I am told there is an appendix C in the user manual... "Appendix C: Supported File Formats for USB Mode" Which will give you the proper list of supported formats. If it includes the MPEG4 (MP4) format, you will find that most things you download now will be in that format, if your files are not, you need to convert them. I use a program called TMPEGenc, which is a bit technical, but excellent, but you may want to find a one button converter, google xvid 2 mp4, and you will be confronted by a **** storm of options. I have a little utility, that comes with the K-Lite Mega Codec, called Media info, and when you point it at a file, you get all this info.... Format : AVI Format/Info : Audio Video Interleave File size : 700 MiB Duration : 1h 33mn Overall bit rate mode : Variable Overall bit rate : 1 047 Kbps Writing application : VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2 (build 2540/release) Writing library : VirtualDubMod build 2540/release Video ID : 0 Format : MPEG-4 Visual Format profile : Advanced Simple@L5 Format settings, BVOP : 2 Format settings, QPel : No Format settings, GMC : No warppoints Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263) Codec ID : XVID Codec ID/Hint : XviD Duration : 1h 33mn Bit rate : 906 Kbps Width : 624 pixels Height : 352 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 25.000 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Compression mode : Lossy Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.165 Stream size : 605 MiB (86%) Writing library : XviD 1.2.1 (UTC 2008-12-04) Audio ID : 1 Format : MPEG Audio Format version : Version 1 Format profile : Layer 3 Mode : Joint stereo Mode extension : MS Stereo Codec ID : 55 Codec ID/Hint : MP3 Duration : 1h 33mn Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 128 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 86.2 MiB (12%) Alignment : Aligned on interleaves Interleave, duration : 24 ms (0.60 video frame) Interleave, preload duration : 142 ms Writing library : LAME3.90. I am an IT professional, but also a support specialist. We have already established that his software was old and that is codecs were not compatible by simple elimination questions, you just gave him what amounts to, for someone not versed in software codecs or interested in such things other than for them to work, way too much information It's as simple as his software was old and his TV was new, so keep it simple stupid He has already sorted it in case you didn't bother to read. he needs the full version of the software to re-encode the videos at this point. Gerrez I'll have a gander for the software and set up an ftp site on my PC so you can download it straight from me in minutes if you don't find the software yourself. PM me if you don't find it.
TVs can have the most awkward encoding requirements. Just because you can use the USB doesn't mean you should.
Smart TVs are even ****ing worse. my Panasonic internet TV decides to turn its self on sometimes, not sure how smart it is really Also I hear the attached harddisk spinning up as if someone over the internet is checking out my attached drive I can control it from the ipad over the internet and play what's on the ipad on the TV which has handy and create playlists on my laptop in youtube and play them on the TV afterwards.
My Samsung tv takes whatever I throw at it? Have you updated the TV to the latest firmware settings, have you tried to see if the Usb plays through the 360. P.s I couldn't be bothered reading the thread, so sorry if this has been tried
look my tv plays movies fine. avi is the accepted format. there are a couple of things you might try. 1. really simple... classic in fact. are you sticking the usb in before you turn on the tv? sometimes they don't recognise the thing properly unless you do this. 2. whats your tv? a dumb one? well mine is too but you might be missing a codec or something. it could be as simple as looking and seeing what format you are getting the movies off of. Are you getting windows 7 or windows 8? etc etc. Try an old movie in avi format and see... 3. careful what you down load
I know it doesn't help you with your current dilemma but my recommendation is to buy yourself a HTPC and run everything off that. No need for any DVD players or console bollox. Wouldn't need to fanny about with all this USB and conversion **** either. From my experience, these Smart TV's aren't all that smart.
really think its compatability. we got a chear walker tv and usb work fine... look to the source of the movies. also as a test if you've any sort of digital camera bar apple you will generate AVI video clips. try running one of these on the tv using usb stick and see what happens. If it plays you'll have an idea that tv is fine..
how big is the usb? im not sure you will be able to play movies off just a usb stick. if you have an external hard drive plug that in. also it might be something to do with your tv not being able to play avi files. google what file extension you need to convert it to. ps. is it a smart tv?
Its working from the 4gb USB stick I have. I intend to purchase a bigger one (can get a 20gb stick for about £8) or use a alternative HHD (I already have a 80gb one but its works). The TV isn't a smart TV. Its a Toshiba LCD 42" Full HD
The old convert software I had works too. I checked the output data against the Toshiba version (and Noble's post above), tried again and it worked. The films are a little pixelated but I think that is more to do with the download than convert
Cheers for the help Just frustrating that I was about there anyway and it took a few suggestions from others for me to work it out
