Schumacher didn't in his first two championships when he was driving the Renault. The Williams was clearly the better car but Michael was a superior driver to his competitors! But generally yes, it is all about the car!
I said that in my piece " the only WDC i can remember where a lesser driver in the better car got schooled was schumacher v hill or perhaps alonso's first WDC." its not ALL about car though. its about team, car and driver... hill proves that.. button barely held it together for his also showing something. its the beauty of F1 as a category.
My bad, I stopped reading after your list, I should have read on I realise its not 100% the car. The driver has to be able to drive too, they'd end up in the wall all the time otherwise Its more the car than anything else though. As I said to DD earlier in the thread; if you swap the cars that Hamilton and Vettel or Alonso and Vettel drive, does Vettel still win the championship? IMO, he doesn't!
vettel might have won last year in the ferrari... might.. this year? hmmmm... i don't know about the mercedes. i really don't. overall there is not too much wrong with either car. the Mercedes according to brawn were trying to hard for some big bang fix and found now that small things radically affect the tyre issue. that's what i heard on pre-race bbc.... they left it too late but they might have delivered a better car earlier and vettel might be under more pressure. Ferrari last year came strong and was dependable. I think thats vital... vettel's first two championships could have been phoned in and he actually did his best to lose them too.... you can see his development as a driver.... yes ahd he been in a bad car year one and two... no chance of a sniff of a title. Vettel today would run teams close... look at alonso yesterday. blew the rest away. Vettel could do that i think.
