    Sweet jesus, bring it back.<laugh>

AVI is a standard rather than an actual specific codec type, there's many different avi codecs, some will work if the TV recognises the avi files it's a matter of the right codec. As mentioned above, converting to divx files will probably be supported as divx is so popular and commonplace

sheesh, my tv is nothing special but it plays all of the above formats, .avi .divx .mkv .mp4

note to self, avoid Toshiba, I all my movies from USB

  5. **** innit <laugh>

All the films I have on my PC (247 of them) are in AVI format too <grr>

As I said higher up, I have a media player too so I could always just connect that and have done with it. Just frustrated me that I have a TV that says it will play films via USB but didn't <laugh>

because your output file of the conversion was not the same as the test file, just the same standard

How old is the software you are using to convert the videos?

The default .mp4 settings should work on a Toshiba. .wmv also works but if your software is older then the codecs might not be compatible with the new TV

Divx converter lets you do .mp4 and wmv but the codecs are up to date as yours might not be, codecs encode the video in a format your tv can read

    http://download.cnet.com/Free-Convert-to-DIVX-AVI-WMV-MP4-MPEG-Converter/3000-2194_4-10906593.html

thats why I asked how old the converter software is, or how long you have it
