PDC has confirmed in the echo that Cabral was left out for tactical reasons.

He wanted Gardner in midfield as he is more agressive - fair enough but why not drop the consistently innocuous Larsson rather than Cabral?

An absolute joke of a decision

And that joke of a decision laid on the goal with a superb corner, PDC has been saying for weeks he needs a midfield with an English mentality which is why he in my opinion picked two tried and tested midfielders in Gards and Larsson, whatever their shortcomings, we were away from home against a fairly decent team and needed steady heads, not saying he will do it again but he has already said he will chop and change to suit the opposition, something MoN never did. Lets hope he gets the right team out tomorrow and we don't slip up.

He is the manager, and made a decision based on what he see's in training.

He is in a much better position than us to make decisions.

End of the day, he made a tactical call (something we said other managers were unable - didnt have the balls - to do) and we were unlucky not to get the 3 points due to a late goal.

We cant knock MON, Bruce etc for not being able to make tactical decisions and for only having a plan a, then have a go at PDC for having the balls to make make tactical changes regardless of who the players being swapped out are (i.e not having favourites).

That tactical decision got us an away point which I would have taken before the match.

Agree with your point about Larsson though.

Having watched the game Larrson was our best performer in the first half so I can't see how you can be upset at him playing?

PAOLO Di Canio says midfielder Cabral was left out of Sunderland’s starting 11 for “tactical reasons” at the weekend.

The Black Cats’ boss sprang a major surprise when he didn’t start the former Basle man against Southampton on Saturday.

By common consent, the 25-year-old was one of Sunderland’s best performers in the opening game of the season against Fulham.

And so it was a talking point when not only did Cabral not start but was also left on the bench when Sunderland came under great second-half pressure – the head coach turning to David Vaughan, rather than the summer signing, as his preferred substitute.

Asked why Cabral wasn’t used at St Mary’s, Di Canio said: “I did not play Cabral for tactical reasons, because Southampton play almost with a five across the middle and that presents its challenges.

“Southampton’s full-backs push on to the midfield three and so you have to find a way to cope with that with your own midfield.

“Cabral is a not a naturally aggressive guy and I needed someone in the middle like Craig (Gardner) who would do that job for us.

But we didn't. Ah well, rockie manager and all.

Seb and Gardner must be doing some fantastic things in training. Why can't it transfer to the matches?

Like I said yesterday, I've got a feeling that yesterdays game could turn out to be a very good one for Lee Cattermole. If that bit in bold is not a challenge for Catts to rise to I don't know what is

The majority of people seemed to have jumped to a similar incorrect conclusion (smiley noted).

Does that make us as bad as the media?

I wasn't worried about a fall out. If it had been it would have blown up in the media like an atom bomb last night. You saw what happened when fletcher was ticked off in training, i was treated like a bust up so imagine how'll they'll report a real bust up.

Repeat the lie often enough and it doesn't take long unitl it is the accepted truth. Something the British media are very very good at.

What is more disappointing is that plenty on here debunked it yet despite this it seems some of our own fans still want to belive the lie
