Both announcers commented that Chester and Brady looked nervous. Especially Brady before he took the penalty kick. Both announcers later said that they looked like they had gotten over it. Id chock it up to nerves and they should calm down as time goes on.
mcgregor i've said it so many times.. he's incredible and as for chester, i think the same but he's young and his tackle in the second half... if he mis timed it by an inch it was a stonewall penalty, but he got the ball and put it out for a corner, he will improve massively this season, that tackle was just quality
Agreed - no-one had a bad game today, and it's hard to pick just 3. Perm any 3 from McGregor, Davies, Huddlestone, Livermore, with Elmo and Chester not far behind.
Davies - great defending, only got pulled out of position once late on, plus made good attacking run to help relieve pressure. Huddlestone - classy, end of Elmo - adapting well to his role although nearly gave away the equaliser when he jumped up and they cut back and crossed, fortunately McGregor made the save of the match: his link up play and short passing is superb and crosses caused problems even when only 1 in the box
Other than Sagbo's mentalness, I thought Chester looked the weakest link yesterday but I'm sure hell improve.
Livermore - never stopped running, broke up their play on countless occasions and I don't think he misplaced a single pass which is crucial when down to 10 men Davies - Absolute rock, enough said Figueroa - dependable, they never threatened us much but when they did it was usually far away from this guy. Loved how he quite frankly bullied Snodgrass for 45 minutes too, fantastic entertainment. Perhaps harsh on Huddlestone and McGregor who played very well but I think without these 3 Huddlestone wouldn't have been as comfortable and McGregor would have been worked much harder.
Chester a weak link ???? I think not !! another consistant performance we all now take for granted . Let's hope the new boys can show us the same consistency as Chez has over the seasons...
If you look at the team that started yesterday, it had a lot of Premiership experience. The ones the didn't have that experience were McGregor (although he has plenty of top flight experience), Chester, Brady, Aluko and Sagbo. Of all those inexperienced players Sagbo and Chester play in the most pivotal positions, ie. "spine positions". Inevitably they are going to appear to be weak links when compared with the other more experienced players. They will need time to get used to the ENORMOUS increase in quality of opponent, so more support and less criticism in general will speed that process up. Specifically about Chester, he is a player that relies heavily on his intelligence to be in the right place at the right time. I am absolutely certain that he will quickly "suss out" the new level of opponent and prove to be a top Premier League defender.
Is it not possible to just enjoy our first premiership win with a clean sheet without some of you having a moan ... Enjoy it and be proud of our team !!! I know I am going too
1. Koren - best I've seen him in a long while 2. Huddlestone - ruled the midfield and influenced others to up their game 3. McGregor - for giving us all 3 points with a stunning save and al round calmness Any of the remaining team could have been number 3 though (apart from Sagbo for being a tool!). We looked good and IMO can only get better. Bring on Manc Citeh
Think you will find you are wrong about misplaced passes by Livermore. But I will let you know how many he misplaced after watching the game again on TP. Even maestro Huddlestone misplaced a few. Its always hard to keep track of these things. And I for one tend to focus our view on particular players looking for good in some and bad in others. Got to say that when Chester misplaced a second pass right at a Norwich player I said "Chester again". I was beginning to worry that he might have caught the McShane Passing Syndrome (tee it up and then boot it up to the opposing team). Pleased to say he did not catch it and from then on was spot on (Super Mac went to a recovery clinic-I think its at Baden Baden or maybe a special wing at the Betty Ford recovery center in California sponsored by the Football League-for the disease last summer and now is completely cured).
