The defence were absolutely terrible today,Wiggins and Morro awful. We seem to have forgotten how to defend, the picking up of players was pub league standard. Cousins and Church had decent games. But I think it is time to bring in Wood and Evina, they couldn't do any worse.

Was Cort only in for Dervite today though because of the latter being ill last week and Cort putting in a good performance when he came on.

Other than that Dervite hasnt looked THAT bad

VoV the first goal was down to rubbish defending, beyond that you can't judge anything from today. Going forward we looked OK, I fancied us getting a point with the way the momentum had turned. Their 2nd goal was completely down to water logging in that goalmouth.

Our defence is crud right now, VVA. First goal we went to sleep from a throw, second goal was a ridiculous appeal for offside, and the third was awful marking from a corner. Morrison looked horribly shaky even allowing for the water on the surface.

I agree with Addick4Life mostly, offensively we were much better today. Church looks like a decent link-up player and Harriott was more of a menace. Most heartening was Jordan Cousins's performance, which for a home league debut was wonderfully assured. He did everything correctly by keeping it simple, making sure the midfield kept the ball ticking over, and has a decent physical presence, which isn't something we've seen in our midfielders for a long time. He also made Gower look better.

Nonetheless, we were extremely lucky the weather intervened today.

I know it’s early days, but the most worrying thing from my perspective is that last seasons consistent performers (those you can always rely on) appear to be struggling big time with their form thus far.

For me Wiggins, Morro & Kermit have started very sluggishly indeed.

However, with a paper thin squad in terms of numbers and strength, we have no real alternative other than to persevere with key players when they aren’t at the top of their game.

I have every confidence that the aforementioned trio will regain their form, I just hope they do so sooner rather than later…!!

I can't argue with that. If we don't turn these performances around it is going to be a long hard season. Still we can always rely on the chuckle brothers to stump up some money for some new players. Oh no wait a moment WE HAVE GOT NO MONEY.

We were way better than v Boro 3 0 down due to 3 of the back 4 having nitemares the other 8 were ok and Turbull made 2 outstanding saves I don't think at 3 1 and down to 10 men Donny were that fussed to call it off at that point at 3 0 and with 11 at the suspension different story.
You can't blame CP church looks class

Can't see how we were better today when we were 3-0 down at home to Doncaster after half an hour. I have been to three of our games so far, we are in trouble. The problem to me us that key dependables from last season..Yann, Morrison, Wiggins, Hamer, even Solly..have all lost form at the same time.

That has got to be linked to distractions over the contract situation IMO

I would also drop Morrison and Wiggins for Leicester.

    Offensively we were much better.

Defensively we were awful. I would agree about dropping Morrison and Wiggins, Evina must be wondering what he has to do when Wiggins has been so poor.

CP should drop Wiggins for Evina and explain to Wiggins that he should ask Hamer what he did when he responded to being dropped

Am sure that Evina will play against Huddersfield on Tuesday night so will be interesting to see what sort of performance he puts in

Just seen the goals on Sky. Confirmed what I thought from the Covered End. Nothing to do with unlucky conditions. Terrible defending on every goal.

We would have lost 6-1 on a perfect pitch.

    Because we are ****.

    Closer scrutiny of the "conditions excuse" reveals the following;

Goal 1. We play off side from a throw in ? Wiggins asleep, loses his man. Undefended cross, free header.
Hamer bollocks Wiggins after the goal.
Goal 2. Morrison kicks the ball out of Hamer's hands in the six yard box. Scuffed clearance returned straight back in.
Hamer bollocks Morrison, Morrison bollocks Hamer
Goal 3. Eight Charlton players in our box. Pinball Wizard. Scuffed clearance straight at Donny player, goal. Ball watchers galore and rank bad marking.
Hamer runs after ref to remonstrate that his new hairstyle is now drenched. Plays to the gallery by turning to Covered End and sarcastically bouncing the ball in his goal mouth

Ben Hamer ..."always the victim, its never his fault".

Can't help thinking Chris Powell is a very lucky bloke tonight. Saved by Mother Nature.

Yes the defence had a nightmare but the conditions were a lottery. The covered end part of the pitch was puddling and the ball was stopping dead catching our defence out badly. the conditions at the Jimmy Seed end weren't so bad but we were caught out again with passes not being completed. We played more on the ground than they did which is what we always ask for rather than long aerial balls. They knew how to keep it off the ground and to some extent deserved the lead. They were a typical Paul Dickov team, very physical and at least one short arm jab on Kermo by their no 11 went completely unpunished by a referee who shouldn't have allowed the game to start in those conditions.

Were we poor, defensively yes with Morro trying to cover for Cort who didn't seem fit, Wiggins having a nightmare and Hamer spitting his dummy out again. The midfield was on the whole reasonable and you couldn't challenge Church for his industry up front. Can you make decisions on how good the team was in those conditions - only if they were in a water polo league.

Let's see how the team with Cousins in midfield shape up in normal conditions with a referee who is wiser to the physical side show that Doncaster put on.

Not a representative match and to soon to be calling for heads to roll. On 606 tonight I heard a Palace fan call for Holloway to be fired. That has about as much sanity as some of the comments above.

The crowd seemed to me to be very poor today, but I've got no way of verifying that because it wasn't announced at the game and doesn't appear on the BBC match report - I'm guessing about 12500 - what does everyone reckon?

Have to say that I thought the groundstaff's efforts to clear the pitch of water today were pedestrian in the extreme and Hamer and Pope's antics in the penalty area trying to get the game abandoned were simply embarrassing.

With things disintegrating around him, thought Jordan Cousins was tremendous today - calm, classy, deadly accurate passing and a bit of grit in the chase and tackle - excellent.

The referee wasn't fit to officiate at an under 11s game, the red card was about the only decision he got right all day.

Even though it's a minor grievance in the great scheme of things, I've no chance of making the rematch, so that's twenty quid down the Swanee...hi ho.
