what a non derailed thread... well ok here's a comment from me then.. they are getting rare so enjoy or belittle as you wish. everyone at LFC are doing their best. if that is too slow for people, or too cheap or just not suit... well tough. people can only do their best when it takes two to tango. If we have been knocked back as much as arsenal by various players then that's what's happened. We cannot buy just anyone with our money, it has to be right. each knock back is a lot better than say a robinho who turns up not knowing a thing and not being ready for delivering. imagine shelling 15mil on sahin last summer, even is loan was a waste of money... just one example
This. The fact is that we have made progress in the window and that's all anyone could really ask for. If we hadn't signed anyone yet and Willian had rejected us I'd understand the uproar, but with our current squad I don't think he would have been a crucial signing as we have players who can do a similar job. It'd be nice to bring in a new exciting attacking player, but it isn't essential and certainly no reason for concern if we don't sign one. If Suarez does actually stay that's almost a new signing in itself anyway. Also I kind of disagree with the main article for a couple of reasons. But one major issue I had with it was the fact that Salif Diao was mentioned in the same sentence as Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano as successful signings. I was only a young teenager at the time but all I remember of him was how completely and utterly gash he was? Did I miss something?
Luis Suarez, Glen Johnson, Javier Mascherano, Ryan Babel, Xabi Alonso, Steve Finnan, Salif Diao, Dietmar Hamann and Jason McAteer Spot the odd one out
Got to love Diao. 2 good games for Senegal at a World Cup and has lived on that ever since! Does he still play for Stoke
His point wasn't that all of those signings were great, it was that more of the signing that weren't marquee signings worked out than the ones that were. A few of the 'marquee' signings did, but a few of the non-marquee didn't. More of a percentage comparison than an end-all-be-all... It was a good article, but I agree with most in that the Spurs to us comparison is a little farfetched. On a side note, I never cared that we didn't get Willian as I never saw him play before, but more importantly, we made what looks to be four solid signings, and we weren't in dire need of Willian. If we had goten him, great! As we didn't, no big deal.
And got some young players on loans that will benefit us! I actually am very happy with this transfer window. Been a long while since I could say that.
Same. Just concerned that we are a bit sort at DM and equally concerned that the moeny we've been looking to spend as been for an attacker rather than a DM.
Understandable, and agreed. However, I'm wondering if the money only would've been spent on those attackers as they were cheaper than we would've expected. I can always hope, right?
I think the club has shown that we won't pay over what we believe is right so I don't think you are too far off TBH. I would feel a lot better if we had back-up/competition for Lucas though. Plus, if they proved good enough, gerrard could be played in the AM role occasionally too.
