Gigon beat them a few weeks before the final too. Barca were also brilliant when Inter put them out too remember. They were every bit as good as they are now when Jose and Inter put them to the sword over in Italy.

You would need to get close to these players before you try stop them, United were never athletic enough to do that in Carrick Giggs, ohhhhhh Mercy

that all you got? lmao, every team get a hiding, Barca came to Anfield a few years ago Owen scored first and we didn't see hte ball for hte rest of hte game with Overmars running things that evening.

Surely you remember Fulham Westham aston villa ect, al teams that hadn't got what it takes ot hold what they had with 20 minutes ot go granted, but when they attacked with conviction they ripped yernited a new arsehole. They didnt know how to deal with Kevin Doyle either, your midfield sucks proverbial ass

Exactly. A good hiding means nothing at the end of the day. you beat us 4-1 we won the league. Which matters more?

What matters is the context of the debate, if we are talkin hidings the league doesn't come into it unless you wish to commit to saying the equivelent "Yer Ma" in a debate by blabbing on about the league win the year of the subject being discussed.
it was a hiding the 4 1 but not a one sided hiding, UNited played in the game and had posession.

What Barca did was not a hiding, it was an education, I keep saying this, a hiding you can get in a slugging match with two opponents going at each other and one takes control, what Barca did was show England not just United, and the world, how to play football.
In saying that it must not be forgotten that the challenge offered by yernited was what you would expect to see when Brazil play a local team when warming up for a world cup.

Which reminds me, rooney snapping when playing basically a sunday league team for a warm up game when in South Africa, what a loser

    Agree with Bringbackfootie

Barca handed out a lesson on football,on the night they would have done the same to any team

Scousers clutching at straws here. To believe you would have put up more of a fight than United is laughable. By saying that effectively you believe that you are the better side. How in gods name do you come to that conclusion? By basing the defeat of us at Anfield in March? Don't be so pathetic. You didn't hammer us at all. You were gifted the last 2 goals. Also we hammered you both times at Old Trafford. We didn't even get out of 2nd gear both games. In the first game you were also gifted 2 goals. Free kick and penalty just like the 4-1. The table doesn't lie. Liverpool are the 6th best team in the country. In no way shape or form do they have ANYTHING to laugh at United about. Because as bad as you think United are you are 6 times worse. I seem to remember Wolves beat us this season and Blackpool beat you at home, does that mean they would have given Barca a game?? Of course because one off games mean everything don't they...

We also had a man sent off in the FA cup tie, you weren't spectacular at all, and laughable of you to talk about gifted goals, in the FA cup you only scored through a penalty that never was.

And the point was that our players might be more suited to beating Barca because they have higher energy levels than your players, the likes of Kuyt and Lucas can run all day and put pressure on the opponents, unlike Carrick and others in your team.

So a team that finished 6th would do a better job than a team that won the league against Barca, you are a ****wit

No-one knows better than Liverpool supporters how bad a season we've had. The point is that the changes in January have made a different team of us. Still too many defeats as far as I'm concerned, but as a work in progress it's a very promising one.
The point about the CL final is that Utd failed tactically on the night and it's just possible that another team might have had a better stab at it.
Fergie is a great man manager but an average tactician to my mind, and when Plan A wasn't working there was no Plan B. I think you failed to get into them hard enough in midfield. Barca play a lot of under- weighted passes into the space between the passer and the receiver, as opposed to one played hard to feet. The receiver moves towards the ball to take it. There's an opportunity to attack that space which Utd didn't seem to go for.
Of course, if you do, Barca may well have a Plan B of their own and still wipe the floor with you-you don't know 'til you try.
To say that the implication is that Liverpool are the better team is unfair- obviously over the season that is patently untrue-the best team wins the league.
It doesn't necessarily win every game though, and the suggestion that another team might have fared better against Barca on the night is not an unreasonable one.

of course United is the best team in last years premiership, the table doesn't lie, but that has no relevance whatso ever to 1v1 matchups.

Yes Barca would probably have beaten anyone on the night, and certainly not feared Liverpool. The point is Liverpool 1v1 United have been better this season and Liverpool would have put up more of a fight in hte final, nothing to do with Liverpool beating Barca or being a the best team in the league. sheesh, united supporterss get their knickers in twist to hear anyone say Liverpool are better than United in any way whatsoever:)

I ave been on about that space even before the final and UNited fans said I didn't know what I was talking about

It seemed obvious to me but I don't recall any of the self-styled "experts" mentioning it.
It's common knowledge in football that the only way to play a team with superior skills is to get into them and stop them playing. It doesn't always work but it's pointless trying to play them at their own game.

Whats this expert craic? No professed expert here, and it was a discussion on how to completely nullify Hernandez in a game. The same principle applies and Wilshire was in and around that area to good effect at times for Arsenal, it takes sharp responsive players not giggs and carrick, the will to close down the space and players with the ball is not enough without the tools and organisation, both of which were missing.

Yes Barca will try something else then, but it improves your odds, it is not a recipe for beating them, if you don't have the players to do that particular job it will fail miserably as they'll ever get close to the Barca players, thats what happened, you need to be into the back of Messi before he gets the ball as we now if he gets the ball under control it is a problem. Also the amount of ball watching United did in the final was shocking.

3 1 flattered the hell out of United

In the FA Cup game Liverpool were lucky not to lose 4-0. The amount of saves Reina made to keep you in it was ridiculous. In the 3-2 United were 2-0 up and cruising. Liverpool hadn't had a chance on goal until suddenly they scored from 2 set pieces. I fail to see how this season in each of our games Liverpool have been the better side. The thing I don't understand is Liverpool are using this defeat against Barcelona to show how bad they are..yet they claim Liverpool WOULD have put up a better fight. Maybe they would have, maybe they would have been beaten 5-0 but a one off game doesn't mean anything. So to say just because you 'hammered us' 3-1 it means you would have been given Barcelona a game is a joke.

I was talking about the telly "experts" just drooling over Barca.:)

I'm no expert either, and I'm not being partisan over my team- just offering an opinion on the game.
Whoever comes up against Barca in future has got to figure out a way of playing them, not just admire them and say "you couldn't do any better".
