you seem to think that the more a team wins the competition the less relevant it becomes - by your arguement, if united ever get to six european cups, the achievement will be irrelevant q.e.d. It also means that if barcelona fail to add to their current haul of european cups, in twenty years time their achievement will be seen by you as irrelevant

If the mancs really knew anything about the competition pre and post CL they'll know that Liverpool FC got to the semi final 4yrs before they won it in 68 and were knocked out by a dodgy refs decision on away goals. The east european referee admitted he'd been paid by Inter to make sure they won(which they did),and it was poetic justice when Celtic beat them to become the 1st British club to win the competition(no knighthood for Jock Stein)the season before utd. They might as well re-name utd Real(royal)due to the undeserved knighthoods thrown at their club.

I made this point before on BBC606 that they knighted the wrong Bobby.It should have been Moore not Charlton.Bobby Moore played for West Ham and thats why he wasn't knighted and should've been as he was the captain.Did Charlton score a hat-trick in the final(Oops that was Geoff Hurst who was rightfully knighted). Now tell me exactly what did Bobby Charlton do differently to Jack Charlton,Alan Ball,Nobby Stiles,Martin Peters,Roger Hunt,Gordon Banks,George Cohen and Ray Wilson.There is one thing...He's a brown noser and a kiss-up.George Best once said as much.

The fact of the matter is football is better now, football is harder now ( not harder in terms of fighting, only a ****** would think fighting is better ) and the Champions League is harder to win than the old format. Nothing to be ashamed of just how it is. You have won it 5 times, 4 under the older slightly easier format and once ( somehow ) under the new format. If the old format was as it is now would you of still won it 5 times? Maybe, maybe not. if it was still under the old format would you of won it at all in the last 20 years? No, would we of won more. Also can I just point out that the Rep. ireland have **** all to do with Britain and hence....Robbie Keane wouldnt get a knighthood if he cured cancer never mind scored some goals. charlton was knighted for his services to football. World cup winner, highest caps, highest goals and the most respected footballer who ever played the game in England.
