No they haven't. They've been bailing us out of debt equal to 50mill each of the last two seasons whilst still giving some money to the managers to spend.
All sounds perfectly reasonable Dave and Lfool I understand if we were talking about one player. But, and its just my opinion, the quotes today don't sound petulant about one signing they sound deeply frustrated at not adding the players he considers really important. And I can't see why he would be so frustrated if everything was so black & white and laid out by the money guys for him that this so called committee seem to have been presenting the money men with option after option that just wasn't viable. He must have been given some assurances if he's coming out with the "now we add quality" quotes. They've been in the game long enough to know quality doesn't come cheap. So either BR spoke about adding that quality knowing we're in no real position to get it, in which case the owners should be telling him to shut his mouth just as you suggest. Or he genuinely believed we were going after it and the owners backtracked at a money line which makes the committee pointless as the targets they know we need are for the moment unattainable. While we have apparently so little money that we can't compete for the quality signings (his words not mine) then BR should be instructed to say nothing. He's a young inexperienced manager who one way or another needs more tightly controlled. Hard to do from so far away when he's the only one that talks.... He obviously has a different view of his role than they do. It needs sorted.
Did the numbers come out for last season? From the 11/12 numbers we made a loss of £40M (mostly wages and player amortisation), either way we should actually be profitable this year with reduced wages and increased commercial and tv revenue.
Oh and I'm not slagging the squad we have or buys we got. I think they've all been good and I'd have said at the start, that's what we can afford, let's see what BR can do with them this year. I wouldn't have dreamed of "marquee" signings. In fact it irked me when BR said "and now we go for quality" because I thought "what message does that send to the new players already got" But that is what makes me believe he thought we were in a position to spend on the "quality" players. Everyone has seen the prices high calibre players went for this summer and quite early too. There's no way if they are sitting on a modest pot that it should have been getting past the phone call stage surely? In fact if they know there stuff surely it should have been slapped down at the committee stage and basically the message internally should been barring a great deal of luck the players you've bought are the price we can afford so don't look higher.....
We are part of a Sports group which has to sustain all parts to be successful financially, so when one hits hard times the others have to bail it out. Much prefer us to have an owner with only us as his 'asset' But i respect your opposing view, that's what its all about.
The fact is we have made a 5m+ profit this summer, and that's not even counting the massive cuts to the wages that has been happening for 2 years now. They have no excuse to not back Rodgers if they are expecting top 4. Rodgers is having to work with nothing here, it's all well cheaply planning for the future, but how many top players will we have lost by the time the likes of Ibe, Sterling, Alberto are in their mid-twenties.
That 5mill has gone already on signing on fees and agent fees We've made a loss every year since FSG took over - but a decreasing loss. We're expected to make a profit not this financial year, but the one after. FSG, for all their critics, have invested heavily in bailing us out so there's no debt put onto the club.
It's Groundhog Day. Last summer only with higher profile players and larger fees. They pissed him off over Dempsey and now it's happened again. It looks like willian reluctantly agreed on spurs because they outbid us. Whether the flirting with Chelsea is true or is he just hoping that we come back in for him. It's not too late and is obviously someone who BR feels is right for us,so why not try rivalling spurs bid and see what happens
Try and remember guys we were all upset last year at missing out on Dempsey and Sigurdsson, but if we had signed them then we wouldn't have been able to sign Sturridge and Coutinho a few months later.... Which two would you want in the team! Try and keep the faith we all no its going to be a long tough fight back to where we belong, but we will have some fun along the way I can assure you.
I'm not too upset, still time yet. Haven't seen BR's interview yet, but it seems disheartening. But let's wait and see.
I heard quite a lot about the interview yesterday and apparently Rodgers seemed quite defeatist for once. Usually he's very positive but he genuinely looked down and it implies that the board weren't willing to back him. The Echo reported the same thing this morning.
For a rather naughty video post involving an octipus! Got me into trouble too PS...the ban came straight from the top and had nothing to do with the LFC mods
My God I dread to think Gerrez, I posted a good article as a new thread as I thought it should get max exposure but if it needs to be merged here then thats fine
Woah woah woahhhh, we got the best midfield in the world! We got Luis Alberto, Jordan Hendersoniho, Gerrard and ****ing Joe Allen.
You could get away with "Hendo" and obviously "Countinho" at the end. Best midfield in the world however, is an outright lie.
