Roberto Martinez: ""I have never seen Manchester United working in this manner before," the Everton manager said. "When you want a player you just do the business quietly, you get it done and that's it. I don't know if this is a new way of working at United."

This, coming form a manager who went back to Wigan to sign some of his former players.

So Everton made it all up?

Release news of fake bids to the press saying the biggest club in the UK is bidding for your best players to unsettle them.....oh wait!

It's a thinly veiled pop at Moyes not United.

He's saying he doesn't remember United trading in this manner before, is this how they work now? lol, he's popcorning him big time. Nice one Roberto :)

Who cares about Moyes being media savvy? Ferguson took 2 years to get used to the enormity of managing United. And that was before the explosion of money and hype which came with the premiership.

It is totally new environment for Moyes and as long as he wins matches, I am happy <ok>

I think he's just gobbing off.

Moyes received plenty of cheeky low bids for Everton players over his decade in charge. I don't remember him ever feeling to need to whine to the media about it on such a regular basis.

Maybe Moyes isn't the only one struggling to adapt to being at a bigger and more high profile club?

As has been pointed out, what Martinez said about United's transfer dealings is just nonsense seeing as it was Everton that went public about the bid for Fellaini and Baines. Had Kenwright not had a public hissy fit then no one outside of the two clubs would have been aware of any offer or potential deal.

    Really?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...oleon-Lescott-transfer-wrangle-escalates.html

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...l-bids-Leighton-Baines-Marouane-Fellaini.html

Moyes went apeshit over Lescott, slapped £20m+ on the head of Baines last summer when SAF was trying unsettle him & get him on the cheap.

"Everton sell expensively, it's what we do" - David Moyes

Martinez jibe was a well deserved poke in the ribs for Moyes, who's actions over this have been classless & disrespectful towards EFC.

Behave. United had been briefing the press all summer about their interest in the pair, hence the constant media links. The fact that Everton chose to make their ridiculous offer on the eve of the new season public, was about making everyone aware of their underhand tactics & publicly humiliating both Moyes & United over the level of the bid.

I very much doubt Moyes sets the price point of any offer. He's just going back to his old club to try and sign their best player(s). Like Martinez did with Kone.

The difference being that we paid the release clause figure for Kone, the same as Moyes could have done last month for Fellaini.

We didn't choose to wait until the say before the season started to make a low ball offer for him.......<whistle>

Moyes went ape**** over Lescott because, as your article aptly summarises:

"Hughes again went public over his wish to pair Lescott with Kolo Toure and announced that his club were talking to ‘the people who make the decisions’ at Goodison Park."

If you can show me a single public comment from Moyes saying he wants Fellaini, or he's talking to the 'decision makers', or anything to indicate he's trying to unsettle the players or act in an underhand manner then I'll happily agree with your assessment. Or, indeed, any comment from Moyes, as Everton manager, whining to the media about private negotiations and private offers made by another club. I don't recall him whinging about Arsenal's pursuit of Arteta, which was made in the last few days of the window.

You are right that he slapped a big price on the head of Baines last season, which Martinez is well within his rights to do. But last season Utd had a similar interest in Baines and SAF is rumoured to have sounded Everton out with an £8m bid. I don't recall Moyes back then crying to the media about how 'derisory' it was, and how it was unbecoming of a club of Utd's stature and blah blah blah.

In fact, I reckon Martinez has just about shot himself in the foot with this one. Now he's shown his own willingness to use the media and try to 'publicly humiliate' other clubs by publicising their interest in his players, I doubt other clubs will have many qualms about publicising their own interest in an effort to unsettle Everton's players. I reckon Everton can look forward to many more Lescott-esque situations in the future.

Moyes hasn't had a press conference since the bid was made, let's see what he says today....

Moyes anger over the Lescott saga went on for weeks, as the press were running stories daily about how Hughes wanted him (without any quotes) & even listed the salary he would receive. It was an orchestrated campaign, that's been mirrored by him here, he's a ****ing hypocrite.

Martinez has come out swinging & put Moyes down big time, I've no idea how you reckon that his actions would somehow encourage other managers to make public statements about our players? Some managers & clubs use the media constantly in that regard - United being one of them.
