So the FA have announced one of there own, Gareth Southgate, as the England u21's coach. Southgate was previously head of Elite Development for the FA but left the role after being unsuccessful in the role. Previously Southgate managed his old club Middlesborough, who he took from European hopefuls to relegation. Sorry for making this move sound so negative but that is all I see it as. Sorry Gareth but I have no confidnce in you. But good luck any way... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23804230 I do wonder if the FA put any effort in to this appointment.
Imagine the job interview: Interviewer: So, It says here that you took over a promising team on the brink of European qualification and pulled off one of the worst season's in Premier League history relagating the side to the Championship. Southgate: Yes that is true. Interviewer: and you also worked for us at the FA recently to. Southgate: That is true. Interviewer: and how did that turn out? Southgate: It was a disaster. Interviewer: So why should we hire you for this role? Southgate: Because I'm English and your far to proud to hire a foreign coach. Interviewer: You have the job. Welcome a board. I'v got to say, this has really narked me. He only got the job because he is English. Most fans have no issue with foreign coaches so are the FA so against them! It is about getting the best man for the job. This is like Alan Sugar hiring some one who bankrupted there own business within the first year despite starting with £1million.
I can imagine that's exactly how it went or "Who's turned up for the interview?" "Gareth Southgate" "Who else" "Just Gareth !" " FFS.....better send him in then!"
Or "Who's turned up for the interview?" ''oh there are hundreds sir, and some are very impressive!'' ''are any English?'' ''Just one but he failed in every job since he retired from playing!'' ''Excellent, he's got the job''.
wow you go off trying to get all the uefa technical badges and work really hard and someday... well you too could be overlooked for a crap ex england subs bench warmer who failed at club management. england u21s to be even worse IMO. to the FA.
Poor manager and a terrible pundit. Honstly I hate his "Let's say what we think the fans want to hear" approach to punditry
He destroyed Middlesborough football club. Yes he is a nice guy, but I dont see much success for him in this job.
