Also, not sure where this Jose doesn't fancy thing come from? Chelsea have played 2 games, Mata was left out of the first as were most of the Spanish players that played in South America 3 days before. But Mata played last night v Villa.
Liverpool's interest is over after Fenway Sports Group refused to pay above their valuation of the 25-year-old. The Anfield club were close to a £30m deal at the weekend only for an improved package from Spurs to prompt the owners to withdraw. Rodgers said: "We identify the targets and then try and get the deal done financially. That's how it was. The club pushed as hard as they felt they could financially but it wasn't to be. "It's the owners' money and they will always have the final say because it's they who run the club. What they have taken on here is a huge job. You have seen over the last few years they will finance a project we are trying to develop and what we have to make sure of is we get the right players and the value and worth of the player is right. It's disappointing because this was a player who would have been perfect for us." The Liverpool manager added: "It wasn't a football reason [why the deal collapsed] and I don't really want to go into it. That's for us as a club really. The bottom line is he hasn't come here for whatever reason and we move on."
Chelsea wont sign Mata to us. Even though they are far ahead in standings they will still see us as close rivals.
Then sorry that goes completely against what the owners said previously. Manager has said that the "player is perfect for us" that's a clear as day quote. Don't have the quote but did they (owners) not say the funds are available if the player is right? BR said not footballing reasons so I can only assume from a footballing point of view the rest of the transfer committee agreed with him on his evaluation of the player.(whether we agree or not). So exactly what targets are set for BR this year? Because tying one hand behind his back just made them harder. I'm one that has defended them for the self sufficiency rule etc but surely if it actually interferes in building the team envisioned by the coaching staff what's the bloody point? I mean we aren't talking a 10M valuation and having to pay 30M here and we haven't actually spent a fortune so far, we've replaced, not added. This pisses me off a bit. Don't trust the manager why bloody hire him? ****, Henry come down, roll your sleeves up and manage us yourself. At least we can yell at the right person each week when the lack of quality becomes apparent.
The quotes coming out from BR today show a very unhappy guy. Legs cut out from under him two summers in a row. All the optimism built up over summer gone. Momentum stalled, Send out the accountant to do all future press interviews; it'll be the truth, relevant to what's actually happening and we won't have to listen to a young enthusiastic coach trying to put a brave face on it everytime computer says no.....
“We’ve sat down with the recruitment guys, working tirelessly really, so we hope to unearth something before the window shuts.” That doesn't sound too promising either... Out of ideas?
Yep that translates as 'we've missed out on our 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice main summer transfer, now we'll scrabble around to see whats left'
And this is what worries me. Rodgers main attributes is his sheer enthusiasm for the game and belief in his vision of how to build the team . And it's being beaten out of him while simultaneously being told repeatedly we don't trust your judgement (and apparently the entire committee now as well).
Newcastle, Comolli and Andy Carroll have really done a number on us. Its that transfer (and the other Kenny summer signings) that have made the owners transfer shy. Almost as if they're too worried that any player over £20mil is going to flop. Its ok to be cautious, but too cautious and you end up like Arsenal. All your best players leave and you end up making desperate bids for players out of reach
Fifa 14 new features play as Liverpool and bid for a player, he automatically goes into spurs' squad.
Sure, save some money on flights, hotels etc. Stick a blank team sheet up outside Anfield and ask anyone that will accept a bid of 15 million & 10k a week to sign up. Doesn't matter if it improves the team. It'll improve the balance sheet.
