There's a vote for or against granting planning permission... http://beta.c4di.net/derelict-buildings/ Currently 95% in favour of granting permission, with 148 votes cast so far. Some facts from the developer… A council survey stated that less than 40% of the derelict building is actually original. As part of our plans, we are restoring a grade 2 listed structure of significant national importance – the Dry Dock. Alongside that, we will also be adding features that allow the public to appreciate the significant heritage of the site and preserve the history of the area. The stable block is locally listed (this is different from a Listed Building), English Heritage state that the derelict block is unlisted.
Managed to find you a before and after.... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image It was brilliant before, it was a complete disaster that a better job wasn't made of getting a major road through the area.
And these are the Castle Street warehouses, that were demolished to make way... please log in to view this image
I've had a few responses, I'm a bit surprised that some of them don't know if they'll be in the planning committee or not and some don't even know what the building is and why there's an issue with it. Though I have been assured that a copy of my message will be in the paperwork passed to each committee member.
Got a detailed response from the chair of the planning committee. There's a site visit on Sept 4th and the decision will be made on the committee's own opinions and not just the recommendation of the planning officer. I can't believe that having looked at the place, they won't agree unanimously to the planning application being granted.
This thread on skyscrapercity gives some informed info on the plans. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1604939 There are some fantastic old buildings next to this proposed development. Bags of character. This could really bring them to life. Get it sorted!
Looking at the site plan, that decrepit stable is slab bang in the middle of the site... please log in to view this image
I really do love The Deep. Think how amazing that entire area could be, both sides. Thanks for being a thorn in their arses OLM. You ever thought of standing for a spot on the Council??
It's crazy. If ever there was a site crying out for redevelopment, this is it. If this doesn't happen, then how are they ever going to develop it?
I'm all for preserving history, but not to total expense of progress. What else are they going to do with it? It's been derelict for a long time. It also seems much of any historical importance was lost long ago.
I think even the biggest council dimbo has now realised they have cocked up our heritage and have now got cold feet about demolishing anything except blocks of their own flats. They prefer the 'blamefree' solution of letting things rot and decay. Have you seen that old music hall down Midland Street?
Aye, I know the one. A perfect example. Here it is, in the not too distant past.. Looking in fair condition... please log in to view this image Fast forward to recent times and it's well ****ed up. Notice the neighbouring buildings still look in fair condition... please log in to view this image
How ironic that the stables are dilapidated, while there are horses tethered on so many grass verges around the City.
If that old music hall was in London, we'd never hear the end of it with Michael Grade gushing about it and how well it been preserved/restored.
I'm afraid that Hull Council have proved over the years that they are incompetent idiots in almost all respects, not just planning!
