Although very pleased with the start to the season with 6 points in the bag, I was (with my normal glass half-empty point of view) a little disappointed with a +3 g/d from homes games against Hull and Villa. However, the reality is that winning the Premiership rarely goes down to g/d â in fact, just the once if my memory serves me right. It does appear to be a little more relevant in the struggle to avoid relegation (points differential on a lower number will always be tighter). I feel like a home game against âweakerâ opposition, should result in a massive goal-fest, although the reality shows that it is not the case. Just win the game and bank the 3 points. Does anyone else feel the same level of disappointment as I do when we win by 1 or, like against Hull, score 2 early goals and donât rack up a bunch â maybe Iâm just a greedy miserable git, with expectations that are too high?
Englands top Football league has been won by goal difference 6 times in 124 years and only once since it was reformed into the premier League in 1993, that being Man City's 2012 title win. So it doesnt overly worry me, and besides we are 2 games in.....plenty of time to score goals my friend.
It could have been worse. You could only have had 2 points were it not for the refs. So I would be happy with the points and the GD.
Bodanki -cheers for that. I appreciate it is very early in the season, but it's not a new feeling. When we play a team that we should beat convincingly and only win by one (or go 2 up early-doors), I do end up feeling somewhat deflated when we don't go on and score a bunch more. I need to learn to be grateful for what we have/get - it's the points that win prizes!
Mourinho's last stint started with a couple of 1-0 and 2-0s. Nothing to be worried about. It'll get rolling soon enough.
Are you still banging that drum? I've yet to see your justification for Hull taking a point off us despite everyone else in the football world agreeing we deserved the win. Opinion of a worried bitter little manc or the rest of the football world....mmm...tough one.
Come the end of the season, we might be considering 3 points against Villa a good result! They will be qualifying at the very least for the Europa Cup.
Indeed. Villa might have snatched something, but Hull were thoroughly outplayed, especially in the first half. Second half they improved, but still didnt look like causing us too many problems. so dont talk s**t Sm1thy
I would feel the same if we were half way through the season, but 1st game I think adrenaline took over and we ran out of puff, and also Hull stepped up their play. 2nd game and Villa are no mugs, we had control but had to work a bit. With the Utd game coming up quickly, understandably we just eased off and did what was needed. Add the fact we have lots of new players, I'll take what we got.
