Think it is in regards to the targets, esepcially willian, has to be frustrating that 3 big names we have lost out on.

Is he frustrated with the club or the players choosing other teams over us?

Could he be loosing faith in the panel?

I think Costa is a fair situation where the player is just happy where he is currently playing and living so I dont think Rodgers should loose any heart from that.

Mkitaryan I think was just a case of which club appealed more. BVB were runners up in the CL and German League but are other wise very similar to us in style and philsophy (just further on up the road).

Willian is frustrating because it really does sound like it was down to money which is some thing Rodgers has no control over. That can be frustrating.

DD and JK, I think both. With the last one though, it is the first time a big target has gone to a rival and that has to hurt, especially one pushing for the CL and we know that thatis a big thing BR is wanting to get to.

Hopefully there is a trick up someones sleeve at LFC and we pull out something. Would lift the feelings again. There is still a lot of talent out there.

"Rodgers on Willian: We've been ambitious in our attempts this summer. If we cant get them in we have to move on."

Not happy if this is true. Willian considering his options means we've been given a second chance to go for him yet he has no intention of taking it. That's twice a player has whored himself out to us this summer (Eriksen +Willian) and we've completely ignored one and have not been prepared to pay 1-2 million extra on the other. They would both be instant improvements to the first team.

Defo agreed. Hence why seeing Spurs sign players like Paulinho, Soldado, Willian, Capoue, Chadli, with no CL and paying really only about 3-5 mil over the estimates, it is tough to watch.

Paying 3-5 mill over the estimates is ok on one or two targets. But do it to offered and you suddenly face big problems.

This was what I was trying to say the other day, but not many people agreed with me.

I understand but for me Paulinho was right on the money, Capoue was, Chadli was, they over-spent a bit on Willian and Soldado. Not bad at all.

Enricky full stop, I agree man, I am really tring to believe in what we are doing and do, but when you see a team who just missed out on CL and they have gone and spent a lot of money on quality ( also players that fit the style) then it is hard to look past them!!

That's fair enough, but as you said once or twice you have to do it. It's late in the window and this player would instantly strengthen whoever he went to. Spurs will be our rivals this year so it's even more important to get him as it stops them getting too strong. You would think FSG would have learned last year that you simply have to spend a bit more if the situation calls for it (imagine if we had got the loan for sturridge at the end of August rather than having to rely only on Suarez), but they haven't learned. They would do well to remember that we have made a profit on transfers this summer and we have saved a huge amount on the wage budget, they owe us a big signing.

Exactly mate, I'd be pissed if we'd done it with Aspas, Mignolet and Alberto but I do think that we sometimes needs to do it, especially with top quality first team signings.

I mean we're willing to spend up to £10m on a championship youth player but they aren't willing to go an extra €3-4m for a top quality player in Wilian? Bizarre.

They're spending alot of money because they've got 93mill burning a hole in their pocket. Just like we paid over the odds after we flogged Torres, they can afford to do the same to get their targets - albeit overspending far less than we did and on better.

We're not in a position to spend an extra 3-5mill here and there on players.

So is BR disagreeing with our "transfer policy"? That puts a different slant on it.

I'll accept a set stance from the club as long as everyone there believes in it. But if for the second summer running the manager seems to think differently than the cheque writers we've got issues. I put last summer down to getting to know each other but if one of the most important members of the committee (IMO) the manager, doubts its working then what?

I've no inside info but I wouldn't be surprised if the following little story didn't contain large elements of truth.

As the Suarez situation began to grow, the 'committee' were charged with the responsibility of finding a replacement. One of the options forwarded was the Azhi player Willian. So he was scouted and negotiations started. These were kept going whilst the Suarez thing brewed. At the point where Suarez was telling the world that the club, manager,Uncle Tom Cobbly, and everyone-else had lied to him and he was going to court, the negotiations became more serious. At the same time JH and LFC took their no-go/no price/ and NOT Arsenal stance the negotiating team were told to 'mark time'. Things moved relatively rapidly and a solution to the Suarez issue was developed. At that point LFC became aware that they were in a bidding war. With the Suarez pressure diminishing, LFC no longer felt the need to push the price for a marquee signing and therefore contested the matter no further.

So, it was probably far less of a matter of being out-bid but of the need to even buy changing during the process.

You could also look at how we went p to 15 mil for joe allen ( over spent), tom ince and will hughes were both 10 mil plus and that would be over spending on championship standard. SPent 9 mil on Mignolet which, while I am glad we got him, it seems we could have used that money better and kept Reina ( even for just a year). Just can't say we won't do this or overspend, but yet we have or made signings that weren't as high on the list as I would think.

do we not have a transfer budget to spend regardless of the Suarez situation?

what about the tv money revenue as well, we have a net spend on transfers, what is going on.

we have a squad that is good enough for 6th but beyond that not sure, if the owners expect a top 4 challenge and a cup as well i think, need to give some cash to spend.

Yeah this is the worst thing. They expect top 4 yet only allow BR to spend like a 10th-15th placed team. In fact I think we will be near last in the net spend table. Incredibly harsh on Rodgers as all it does is put him under more pressure and it puts the blame on him if/when we don't get top 4.
