Bit surprised we haven't mentioned yet....Jol clearly made Richardson his 1st choice LB this season. Many of us felt here he's an injury waiting to happen, unfortunately those few were proved right. Now what does he do. Riise...we know his options. I cannot help but think Briggs starts on Saturday....should Jol be shopping here? If Baines goes to Man U..I'd like to see us go in for Buttner on loan. Thoughts?
Painfully ironic, as we were in for Buttner last season until United swooped. I think Briggs probably deserves a chance but we could do with a top-class player there. We've struggled with LBs since Konch left to be honest...
I do not think Briggs is the answer,.we mut go for a quality Lb. Cresswell is quite versatile, but at what price.
Given Sevilla have sold over €70 million of players this summer, including Navas & Negredo to Man City, Medal to Cardiff and Luna (a 22 year old Left Back) to Villa perhaps we should nip in and see if they would consider selling Navarro, their current Left Back. Bit old at 31 but could do the job for a year or so. He came through the ranks of La Masia at Barcelona and even scored for them, albeit just the one.
Buttner would be good, as would Cresswell (though I suspect Jol and co have moved on from him now). I can't comment on Navarro, but how about seeing if Swansea are willing to part with Neil Taylor. His injury gave Ben Davies his chance, and Davies now seems to be their first choice. They might not want to let him go, but it's got to be worth an enquiry. Then again, I argued a couple of years ago for Rhoys Wiggins (then of Bournemouth, now at Charlton). He was good then and he's more experienced now. Not that I'm in any position to comment on how he's coped with the step up to the Championship.
If Spurs, as rumoured, get Coentrao as part of the Bale deal then Danny Rose may become available. He was impressive on loan at Sunderland last year. Not sure if we could afford him but a loan deal may be a possibility.
I think Spurs are more likely to let BAE go - he is another one who has "fallen out of love" with football to quote BZ and can be an administrative pain in the 'arris. However, I totally agree that Rose would be the much better option - fast, tricky attacking, YOUNG - could be a left sided Sascha.
I like the sound of Rose, though agree that A-E seems to be the one Spurs are more likely to want rid of. There's something Fulhamish about him - he chooses not to have a boot sponsor, and sometimes wears unmatched boots just because he can - but I think for a number of reasons (including age and likely wage) he isn't what we need right now.
AVB is building a side capable of challenging for the title, and the fact is BAE is a better second option at left back than Rose. It would be like Utd buying Baines and keeping Buttner over Evra as back up.
Whatever happened to that nippy, young, Mexican left-sided fullback that shone in the World Cup......Carlos Salcido! Remember things could be a lot worse!
when Tevez ripped him and us apart that day....remember....then again many ripped ol Carlos apart - he was eh nothing short of dire. Sparky waste of space.
I wouldn't want BAE, I remember him saying he doesn't even like football and he's only a footballer because he's good at it and it's a good way to earn a living. Rose is a better option but Spurs would undoubtedly price us out of a move for him, unfortunately.
I agree about Spurs' team building, but AVB played Rose at the weekend, ahead of A-E. It would be more like Man Utd deciding that Evra was past his best and looking to move him on while he has some resale value.
Rose certainly has the potential to be better than BAE but right now he isn't. The game was also against Crystal Palace, do you think Rose would get the nod over BAE when Spurs come to playing Arsenal, Chelsea etc?
