I've only been the once but I've never had anything like it. I don't get across to America as much as I used to, but I'd like to start going again (my fiances sister lives out in California, so there's at least one excuse) and I think New York is probably the greatest city on Earth. I also went to Katz's deli (featured on Man v Food) and had a Reuben. Their Sauerkraut is a little different to what I was expecting, but it was nevertheless delicious.

My dad's been to the 1884 and he said it was immense. I have yet to go myself as it looks like one of those places you go for a special occasion.

Couldn't agree more. I can't fathom it. They then smother the plate in it. Salt and Vinegar, absolutley. Hell, if it's of good quality, a bit of gravy and peas too. But nothing more. Otherwise...well otherwise you're just sick!?

This is a joke, right? :( ....... suggesting curry is sick then suggest GRAVY with fish .......... give me strength what an abomination!

I had a really good steak at the Millhouse Restaurant in Skidby a few years back, rare obviously. Seems consistently decent standard of food there.

Jesus. What a buncha haters. I love mayo. I will ALWAYS put it on chips, with fish, steak, sausages, whatever. Can't eat salad without it. Adds something nice to a cheese, ham and tomato sarny too.

Steak for me should always have English mustard. I'll give OLM peppercorn, that's fine, and most other brown type sauces you get offered, still with mustard too.

Fish n Chips have salt and vinegar, and mayo, never ever gravy.

Pies should always be cold. Then eaten with branston pickle, or brown sauce. And cheese.

Kidney beans and celery are the food of the devil and should never ever be eaten.

Mushy peas are epitome of evil and should be killed then not eaten.

You can't get burgers, steaks or ribs like they have in the USA.

Heaven is malt loaf, cheddar cheese, butter, marmite and a decent cuppa tea.

Gonna look that book up on my kindle now, it'd better be good!

I think everyone is looking at this Mayo thing the wrong way. Shouldn't we be looking at food that doesn't compliment Mayo?<whistle>

There is mayo and there is mayo.I think it is up there as one of the most terribly modified foods.I like the light ,almost lemony ,homemade variety. The stuff that comes in sachets is awful-yet I still occasionally use it.A bit like watching city for many years-my memory let me forget that we had been **** all the previous season and despite signing no new decent players I would go expecting us to be better.WE were not(Mansfield away-Hateley-springs to mind)
Maybe the next book should be called Only Hateley

You don't put the gravy on the fish, I'm not that Northern <laugh>. It goes on the chips! Or I just dip them in so it doesn't touch the other stuff.

Mayo should be kept to salads, sandwich fillings, certain dressings and sauces and messy Dutch orgies. It should not, repeat not, be used as a standalone condiment.
