"I appreciate that we are very lucky to have these new players coming in, but I am saying that I would rather we do it in a way
whereby Carroll and Townsend can prove their right to a place in the side."

Or at least have a "roadmap" where the manager is saying to them the plan is they
develop to be fixtures 3 yrs from now just as Modric and Bale were 3 yrs ago.
The Caulker departure has set a disturbing precedent. Hopefully not a trend.

The simple answer is probably just that he isn't and won't be as good. I'm talking Townsend here, Carroll is not in competition with chad/will/LaLa

And trying to do it in such a way just leads us to not doing it at all (again)

    Question for Spurcat :

What is the Academy "roadmap" ??
What progression rate thru the pipeline into being a fixture in the seniors is
    desired by the club ??

One kid per season ?? 5 every 3 yrs etc ??

No one has said Townsend or Carroll are "better" overall then every player in the first team, so you're being a tad dramatic, just like fans who are rating Chadli yet knew nothing about him before we signed him, and Willian, who I doubt any of you have watched play 90 minutes of league football.

Also, no one is saying Towsend or Carroll should be playing every week and are the focal point of our attack, so maybe understand why some fans want to see these young players given a chance as when they are used as subs they show more ability then certain players show in 90 minutes.

Rodgers at liverpool is a good manager for giving talent a chance, such as sterling and ibe, if these players where at spurs, sterling would have been dismissed for being too lightweight but as he proved, size isn't everything ;)

Assuming Bale is leaving I'd ideally like to finish the transfer window with these as our midfielders/wingers:

    Sandro/Capoue, Dembele/Paulinho
    Lennon/Townsend, Lamela/Holtby, Willian/Chadli

With Carroll as a bonus midfielder to fit in whenever needed. I'm assuming that Carroll won't be able to get a loan deal to another Premier League club with this.

That is a ridiculausly good midfield if we get it! <yikes>

But AVB and baldini have seen Carroll and Townsend and Chadli and willian etc etc many many more times than any of us and also know more about football than any of us. That means something.
I doubt AVB is purposely holding Carroll back for no reason

If Carroll was built like Huddlestone, he would have been called upon more last year, I've no doubt about that.

All Spurs fans have been crying out for YEARS for Levy & Co to invest in the team now they do and people are complaining because it means two of our average youngsters that "might" be good don't get to play.

Robspur's exact words "Id rather have Townsend & Carrol than Willian Chadli etc"

We finally start to build an amazing squad and show REAL ambition and yet still people aren't happy.

On top of that do people really think they know more than AVB / Baldini / Levy about our young players? If Carroll or Townsend are so promising why would they ignore them and go after other targets?

On monday, Carroll proved his current game works well, regardless of his physique,
provided he is protected in MF (he had Sandro alongside him) . I hope to see some of this
in the Europa/League Cup games this season.

Will it be an amazing squad if Chadli and Willian are flops? the answer be No, so why is difficult to understand some of us don't want to get over excited by players who have never played in our league? (discounting chadlis superb debut ;))

  13. Players like Townsend, Holtby, Rose, and all the other talented youngsters that we have should look upon this period as a very exciting one. To be at a club that has so much flair and talent, and to be able to learn from those players, surely doesn't come around that often.

I don't think the Caulker departure sets a disturbing precedent, he is an ambitious young player who wants more caps for England ahead of a WC, and to do that he needs regular first team football that he was not going to get here. An offer came in that was appropriate for the player and clubs involved so we sold. I don't think that deal can be taken as a precedent to AVB and Baldini throwing some of the promising youngsters - Carroll and Townsend to name but two - away to make room for new, older signings.

We'd be making far less fuss over the Caulker sale if he wasn't English IMO.

I've said on here that I really want Carroll to get chances in the first team (and I'm sure I'm not alone) and YES, the potential arrival of the likes of Willian, Lamela and the fact that there is already a whole raft of central midfielders at the club does make me worry a bit that we may stunt his development. The same applies to Townsend. But Carroll featured has featured enough in last season and pre-season that I still think he's in AVB's plans, same with Townsend as I believe we had a chance to sell him this summer which we would surely have taken if he wasn't viewed as promising enough to keep. So the club will find a way, be it on loan or making room for them in the first team when appropriate to ensure they progress I'm sure.

Only if he is a really late developer. He puts in goals for the U21 on a regular basis but the step up is too far. It makes me think that there should be a proper reserve league or allow teams in the prem to have a B team in the Championship.

its another typical signing we've seen too many times, which was what I was getting at earlier. - add up all the little ones, and you realise just how much we've wasted.

He probably will be. But, it's more difficult to sell a player who is not "visible" . Hopefully, he'll get more game time in Spain and a bid will come in.
