Carlos Vela could do many of those things as well and he was promptly shifted out? To be World Class you have to do all of those consistently and for me, Walcott never has been able to. Just look at last year, right after he signed the contract he went MIA the rest of the season.
I wonder if Rodgers is pissed off at missing out on his three 'supposed' top targets. After last years debacle and now this maybe relationships between him and Ayre are somewhat strained. Hope for both their sakes that if there is another one we wrap it up.
It is amazing how many of our targets end up at Spurs. I'm sure they do their own scouting but Sig, Dempsey & Willian in the last year! Will Hughes was one of the best young players in the Championship last year, whether he can step up is one thing, but has more talent then Shelvey so would be an improvement there.
Would love it, but really can't see it. Find it strange that reports suggest Spurs are unwilling to offer over £26M for Lamela after splashing £30M on Willian. He's equally exciting and younger. For our purposes he'd probably be a better fit than Willian as he scores more goals. That said I'm not even entertaining this as a possibility. Even if we were to bid it would only end up forcing Tottenham's hand then he'd probably end up there.
Some transfer news to bring to you at the break - Liverpool have rejected an approach from Napoli for their defender Martin Skrtel. The Anfield club were contacted on Tuesday about the possibility of allowing the Slovakia defender to move to Italy in a deal worth around £10m. Napoli manager Rafael Benitez signed Skrtel in 2008 and with the defender having fallen behind Kolo Toure in Liverpool's starting line-up he has now enquired about the possibility of a reunion. Liverpool have refused to comment on the approach but it is understood the club are wary of selling Skrtel with fellow defender Sebastian Coates on the sidelines with a serious knee injury. What do we think of that? £10mil for Skrtel? Think if we can get up towards £15mil then should accept.
I think 10 mil is a fair bid, if they come back with an improved offer we should snap there hand off!
But what then if we can't get a replacement? Given our track record these last few weeks I would be a bit concerned if we let him go. I don't mind if he does go as long as they have a nailed down replacement
It might be worth having a surveillance expert giving LFC offices a quick sweep for bugs just in case
I'd have taken £10M too. Guess we're worried about being able to replace him before the end of the window. Doesn't look like we're close to bringing anyone in at CB then.
£6mil from what I remember. Was our most expensive defender at that point as well! If we have a replacement lined up £10mil would be decent but if not, then we go into the season with only 2 senior CB's.
