You can't really know how well Norwich are going to play. They've sprung a few surprises during their PL tenure and I'd consider them a tougher prospect than the likes of Wigan, Fulham and WBA who we played last time around. These teams are totally different now (WBA especially) and can't just be ticked off as "beatable". Just take each game as it comes and don't think about which games we'll win and which games we have no chance of winning.
SB has stated some where that you need 10 wins with a few draws thrown in to survive, which is probably more acheiveable than 14 wins.
Evening gents, Not surprised to see you targeting 3 points against us, and depending on which Norwich turn up, you could stand a decent chance. If we play like we did from Jan-April this season, we'll probably frustrate you for large periods without posing much threat, with an equal chance of you nicking it or a draw. Equally, games like the Swans away showed we can attack well if the confidence is there. Hopefully our new record-transfer striker will be looking to impress. Speaking more generally, good luck for next season, I like to see smaller clubs like ourselves, Swansea, etc do well without rash spending. Hopefully we'll both still be in the league in 12 months, at the expense of some more established sides.
Point per game ratio usually does the trick. We'll get nowt at Chelsea or Manchester, so 3 points v Norwich is almost obligatory Oh wait......
I recall saying that if we didn't beat Bolton after getting hammered by Spurs (last time around) we'd go down, and nearly getting lynched. We did beat Bolton but still went down. The simple formula is that if we take more points against the likes of Fulham, Norwich, West Brom, West Ham, Palace, Cardiff, Swansea, S/land than they take against us, then we'll stay up.

I wondered where Aggers had got to or what he'd changed his name to. As for a must win game- get stuffed!
This is definitely a must win game. It will be us and then fighting over the spots between 17th - 19th. I think Palace have already bagsied 20th, even turned around and touched the ground.
I always think getting any points from the big teams is a bonus, but winning games from teams around you is a must win no matter if it's so early in the season. All points matter and feel big in the Premier League. Both clubs will be looking at this game thinking we should get something.
I'd planned a similar thread. We need to win. Looking at Cardiff's fixtures, there's a real chance we could both go into our game pointless. It's essential that we get a win and some points on the board as early as possible.
Last season we took more points off the top six clubs than the bottom six.I don't think a draw would be a disaster for Hull.It would get you off the mark and with nine clubs on zero points quite probably be sufficient to keep you away from the foot of the table.
In the last 10 years of the Premiership, the highest number of points gained by a 17th placed club - Wolves in 2010/2011 season - was 40 pts. Let's assume that's a safe target to aim for to survive in the P.L. For the sake of argument, lets say that's 10 wins, 10 draws and 18 losses. Seems Bruce has identified that as his minimum target. He has probably identified the teams where those points are most likely to be gleaned, with a distribution between home and away fixtures considered. For every game that is lost (3 pts) that means 3 more draws are required to meet that target to survive. That means 2 of those originally targeted losses (18) need to be avoided. Extending those facts in this scenario, if you lose 5 of those targeted 10 wins, you need to draw 15 more games than your original target of 10 draws to still meet the overall target of 40 pts and safely. That's 5 wins, 25 draws and ONLY 8 losses. I would surmise that Steve Bruce views this home game against Norwich as a MUST WIN. Reasons: 3 less draws to scramble for later (or 1 less difficult to achieve win required). Boost to team morale to have 3 points on board - perhaps an aid to building positive momentum. Negative impact on the team we beat...potential morale sapping event for them. The supporters will be happy..which may have future benefits in home (and to a lesser extent away) games. POINTS ON The BOARD to the detriment of a team that could well be in the mix for that 17th place finish.
IMO your strikers need to score. I think a 1-1 or a 2-2 wouldn't be a bad result. Not must win, but certainly a must not lose.
