Elmander really isn't that good. Hooper unrated at this level. Van Wolfswinkel is a good buy though.

I'm not overly worried by any of them. I think they'll get a fair few goals between them, but can't see any of them being particularly special.

I meant in terms of numbers really, but Elmander's not that bad. More goals per minute last season than Lambert for example (yes, I know the Turkish league is not the premier league).

Scary, scary stuff. I would sell Bale now. They're good enough for the top 4 without him, and they could do incredible things with another £90m.

Bale going to Madrid could be a blessing in disguise for Spurs, guess its a done deal with the money their spending. Assembling some quality signings, good chance of a top 4 finish imo.

I think they've probably spent a lot of that 90 million already, but we will soon find out. Either way, Spurs look nailed on for 4th right now!

Come on Joe, you don't think it's a bit of a coincidence that they've spent almost to the pound what they think they'll get for him?

You have to say they've played this pretty well, obviously learnt from the Berbatov debacle and got their replacements in in plenty of time.

No, I think they had a lot to spend anyway. You don't spend £90m with the assumption that you'll make it back. Only Portsmouth are that stupid. Bale could break a leg tomorrow and they'd be stuck with him.

Nailed on Bale is going to Madrid. Possibly agreed that transfer is not announced so Spurs don't pay inflated fees, Levy is a shrewd cookie which is why we'll see hardly f**k all of that 90M.

Possible but highly unlikely seeing he's supposedly injured already and not playing.

So while you have one injury it's impossible to get another?

Oh come on Joe, I think it's obvious the Bale deal is 99% done. The chances of the deal not going ahead are so slight that the risk Spurs are taking is virtually nothing.

I think it's very likely the deal with Madrid is as good as done, Levy is smart enough to know that he'll struggle to get value for money when the Bale money comes in, so he's made his necessary signings before the deal is completed.

We all know he's going, Levy is definitely spending the money with tactical timing.

They've spent around £60m on players so far (not including Willian, if that's now done) and gained about £25m in transfer revenue, so we're talking about a current outlay of around £35m - more or less what you'd expect them to spend anyway.

Now, the Willian transfer might have been done with the Bale money in mind, but they'd been after Soldado and Paulinho for long while, and presumably long before the Bale deal was near conclusion. You do not spend £35m you don't have, with the assumption you'll get more from Real Madrid later. They could pull out, or something else unforeseen could go wrong. These things happen. Fortunately, Spurs have that kind of money already.
