This. Too many knee jerk reactions because we don't sign every player we want to. Given our recent transfers seem to be pretty good there's a lot of people jumping on any opportunity to stick the knife in?!
I will say, there would be a lot less knee-jerk reactions if the club itself, LFC, didn't brief the journos and letting them know that we were or are talking in ( insert sum) this amount to get Mkhi, COsta, and Willian. All three we knew that we really were in for them and all three we missed out on. Difference between papertalk and the club acknowledging that we are bidding. Just sucks when you know that.
hes not a guy we desperately need. plus hes never played for a big club, is unproven in the PL and his goal record is pretty ****e for an attacking midfielder.
Knee jerk? Willian will be our third failed signing this summer, let's be honest - we got the piss easy ones out of the way first. I guess this just shows how hard it is to get players like Mkhi, Costa and Willian without CL. But signing Muniain will put everything right....
Andy Hunter and Barrett have both said that we weren't willing to match Spurs's bid as we didn't feel the value was justified. I don't think it's to do with lack of resources.
I think only Mkhi is the only target that we missed out on because of a lack of CL football. I have a feeling that Costa used our interest to negotiate a better contract at Atl Madrid whereas Willian would have been willing to join us had we stepped up our bid.
I'd say all myself like, unless you reckon magic beans are now acceptable football currency, in which case I'll get straight on to Bill mate.
Yeah it is but Spurs have signed good players on paper, no CL for them They're offering more cash it seems I said before that this is a huge season for us as its getting harder now as proved with the 3 you mentioned to say come to us we're Liverpool We have to be top 4 or at least put up a believable challenge, no excuses this yr or the road getting back to where we want to be just gets longer and longer
They also have Europa League football and being based in the Capital can only help their chances? I still feel we need an experienced DoF at the club.
Sure he's a good player but I believe one of our problems is we have a lot of good players who don't score enough goals/are wasteful in front of goal. I don't know a great deal about this guy but its clear from his record he doesn't score many goals so I'm not sure he would have improved us.
haha, Ok Dave, I obviously knew what you meant, but even spread over the contract length it still equates to the same huge financial commitment & you've been supposedly 'close' to a few very large deals but not landed them. Pardon my cynicism, but the fact that Suarez is still in residence might have a bearing on why these deals are falling over....would you bet on a big money arrival at Anfield before the window shuts, assuming he stays?
Well why anyone would want to live in the ****hole of London is beyond me And Im not so sure about Europa, are players desperate to play in that? I know in Europe its respected a lot more than what it is in England I think but still, im not sure that swings it massively Money talks, Man City were propelled quickly by obv offering tons of money to get the players to get them up there Im not so keen on DOF. Quite happy with our set up now (learned hard lessons from the past) but we really need to kick on this season. BR needs to be happy with hjis team going into the season, i.e missed out on Willian so hopefully there is a plan D? (After Mikhi, Costa and Will)
I hear what you're saying but if you're picking two clubs - one had EL and the other didn't, then I'll probably pick the club in EL. It's a small difference but still a selling point. The reason why I would like an experienced DoF is because Rodgers and Ayre don;t have a reputation around Europe. They're not that well known or renowned, compared to someone like AVB and Baldini, who both have the rep and contacts throughout Europe. We can't rely on the LFC name to attract players any more so having an experienced big-name DoF can only help our chances.
