QPR captain explains why they lost out on Parker

    Scott Parker

THE lure of the World Cup looks to have deprived QPR of Scott Parker – according to the Rs captain.

The Tottenham midfielder had been made a big offer by Hoops, but neighbours Fulham nipped in at the death to deprive Clint Hill and co.

The Rangers defender reckoned the Spurs man would have been a great acquisition, but all things Rio 2014 brought home a reality check.

Hill said: “The big draw for Scott was the Premier League, and maybe this was his last shot of playing in the World Cup, so I think that came into it.

“But it showed our ambition in trying to get him in. However, the position we’re in is Championship football.

“We’ve learned the hard way in the past what went wrong – and although Scott would have been a great addition and a strong character to have, it’s just good we’re looking at that type of player rather than the route we went down 18 months ago.”

One can only assume he had his hands in his pockets when he made the comment about hoping to make the World Cup.
As I said, I was hoping he'd join us and want to play for the club but now that we know his way of thinking, I don't feel so bad, in fact, life is good and so is our team.

Our club only has promises at the moment ... we will always have to pay to start off next year as well until the stadium and training centre are all go aheads ... players like Parker would be long retired before our club is built

Someone actually interviewed Hill for that perceptive soundbite?
