As a Scot who grew up on Merseyside and having lived in several countries (Romania atm), I think the English are not well liked (must emphasise that I don't think they are hated) because they have a tendency to want to impose their way of living on their hosts. Culturally, mainland Europe has so much to offer but the English just want their food, their beer and their football on the tv. All of which is okay if you don't try and "ram it down other people's throats". if you are spending cash, you'll always get a welcome-but is it a heart-felt one? We are an insular people and will always be so. But if the English could just be a little less up themselves, I think they would be better liked abroad. On the issue of FIFA and corruption: Whether you bribe people with envelopes full of money or "political hob-nobbing" it comes down to the same thing. The Royals are a good example. Prince William costs the British (not just English) taxpayer millions. If you use those millions to bribe some FIFA delegate-or try to use Prince William to "influence" that same delegate, what's the difference? you're still using money to buy votes.
You've got good taste Anyway, in my experience, ordinary people (around Europe and North America at least) don't hate the English. Maybe our British Isles neighbours, but I think that's just local rivalry spiced up a bit by the fact that we used to regularly kick their arses in the distant past.
The amount of times foreigners roll their eyes at Scots/Irish or act ignorant towards them because they thought the person was English is unreal. As soon as they find out that they are not in fact English they are much much more engaging. Not that I have anything against the English ya hear

Nothing changes. On most forums they're are 'skirt wearers' and 'bog apes' starting threads like this. Why on earth people rise to it by trying to defend ourselves is beyond me. One thing i have noticed is that the bog apes think everybody loves them. Narcissistic or what? They come over to england with their fake smiles and funny accent trying to be all lovable and then behind our backs 'slag us off'. As for the 'men that wear skirts'? Well, when you think you're hard as steel but always come off second best to your neighbours it can't be easy. So what do they do? Start petty little snipes at us and childishly make up schoolboy stories that we're hated by everyone. The one thing you can count on is that these bitter people will follow in their fathers footsteps and pass their bitterness down to their children!

Outside of the UK and Ireland, I think it's the English-speaking world that is hated, and not the English in particular. Fifa, for example, sees the British, the Irish, the Yanks and the Aussies as basically the same thing.

Which part of England are you from? You do realise that per head of population areas like the south east of England receive more in subsidies than Scotland? What, you didn't know that? Probably because they conveniently forget to mention that in the Sun and Daily Mail.
