Sounds encouraging and much more thought out, we need Baldini to be a success. And SC, This is actual ITK, none of the made up crap you get on spurs community, this type of news makes me feel positive about future progress when it comes to transfers.
Depends how long Baldini's been advising Levy or possibly Baldini had been watching these players from his time at Roma.
Your initial comment was about what Baldini does in the future. I am sure you will agree my initial response answered that. If you are suggesting in your latest post that maybe Baldini didn't have any influence on our recent signings, then you couldn't be more wrong. Wish I hadn't bothered now.
Oh come on Spurcat ! My point's a reasonable one. As usual your insights are interesting though; thank you for that.
For what it's worth, it is not so long ago when I would have asked the same question as yourself. The whole concept of a DOF has never sat easy with me, but having met with Baldini, spent some time with him and learned what he intends to do, how he intends to go about the job, along with his immense enthusiasm and knowledge, has inspired me and many others at the club to believe we have employed a huge asset here.
Fair enough SC, and that's great to hear. I've no doubt he is an impressive man, I just can't see us buying many more players for a good while after this window that's all. As you have stated above though, I suppose there will be the odd one or two and no doubt his work will increase the chances of us getting the right ones, as well as him no doubt contributing to the very significant business being done this current window, and to other matters. I'm a bit surprised about your comment about the youth system by the way; I'd have thought that that could be classed as a real success these days with the likes of carroll, townsend, pritchard etc as well as some of the foreign kids who have gone through the academy lately.
O.s. perhaps you can tell us this? Baldini has a very good reputation in European football - a reputation he would surely want to protect. Would I be wrong in thinking that he must truly believe in whatever future that Levy & AVB have sold him? A future he must be, in turn, selling to prospective recruits? Should that "future" be a false dawn, his reputation would be in tatters.
There is more than that on the line I think NSIS, if this Spurs project fails then AVB + Baldini's reps are severely damaged, AVB's perhaps for good in the English game. Selling Bale, a player who is easily the best I have seen at Spurs in my (admittedly reasonably short) lifetime and who is probably in everyone's top 5 world players and then seeing his replacements flop would be an absolute disaster for the club on the field and off it, whereas keeping him and investing in a more limited way is the potentially more stable option. That said I have confidence in Baldini, Levy and AVB to get us by and large what we need. I've said all along that I think Bale is staying but Tuesday's events have somewhat changed the situation for me, if we really are signing Willian, and even Lamela as well, then THAT is the Bale money speaking IMO, unless we're really digging deep this summer and banking on selling Bale to recoup the funds next year should everything not work out.
No doubt the risk of failure is very real when you dare. I'm reassured, above all, by getting 5 million for Parker, surely a great bit of business. Who knows how the other deals will play out, but our record of buying low and selling high is impressive lately, maybe even unmatched. As long as that goes on, buying anyone is a good idea, if you understand that line of reasoning. Another way of looking at it is that we'll probably be able to sell Bale for 50, 60, 70, 80 (?) million more than we bought him for. So most of this spending spree is being done with house money. And good gamblers cough investors let their winnings run. (Bad ones let their losses run and pocket their winnings.)
Willian is done apparently. - that happened quick, eh?! Lol - huddlefro, you can change your name to "the Willifro"
Well he came straight from a similar role at Roma where I'm sure he had a catalog of players for all positions already. I'm 100% sure he didn't come in and then say "right I need to go to some matches coz I don't have any players in mind whatsoever". On a different note where does baldini rank in the spurs best looking league? Actually I won't go there
To dare is to do is our motto and while I'm sure the money men don't live their lives by that its my opinion we haven't dared much over the last few years. This year is a big dare, regardless of bale, and thus far I am loving it.
I'm dominating this thread! Spoke to my journo mate last night. The place he works have run a fair few/loads of Bale stories over the last month. They've had zero actual information
So if we sign Willian, Lamela and Coentrao but sell Bale will people be happy? I said a while back that with Bale money we can challenge for the title, I stand by that especially if we sign the above 3.
Cheers for the insight, SC. It's nice to know that our transfer policy has been turned into a more professional and intelligent one. Pretty sure it needed work after most of our scouting system fell apart and wasn't replaced. Having someone in there running things that the manager wanted has to be a bonus, too. Just to back your points about signing for the future and bringing in talented youth players, we've already been linked with a couple. Alen Halilovic from Dinamo Zagreb seems to be back on, if the Croatian media are to be believed, and I'm sure there are others in the pipeline. One good example of Baldini's targets at that level would be Marquinhos. Signed for £3.2m last summer and sold for £27m in this window. Quite a mark up!
i would. I was mega against Bale going but then i totally didn't foresee the amount of GOOD business we would get done in 1 window, it really would be some achievement to get those 3 and the others we already have
Not really a great achievement considering our abysmal transfer dealings so far. You will be favourites to snap him up but he isn't the type of player we need to be honest. It looks like you'll be losing Bale but with all the players coming in and should you get those 3 strongly linked players, then you'd be a much more stronger team without him. You'll have a squad big enough and with enough quality to wage a proper campaign in the league and in the cups.
